Chapter 7
Hearing this, Knox first froze, then his eyes gradually filled with anger.
“Aria, do you realize what you’re saying?”
“I know you’ve never liked Mila, and you don’t want to donate your kidney. But that’s no reason to make up such ridiculous lies.”
This time, Aria merely laughed coldly without responding. Because even if she argued until her lips were raw, Knox wouldn’t believe her.
After all, she was just a pathetic replacement.
But Mila truly was faking her illness.
Two months earlier, Aria had hired someone to investigate her. Once, she even caught Mila throwing an entire bottle of prescribed medication into the lake.
Back then, Aria had considered exposing Mila’s deception, but remembering Knox’s attitude toward her, she abandoned the idea.
The result would inevitably be exactly like today–he would never believe her.
‘Get ready. Surgery is in three days.”
Seeing her silence, Knox sighed, his tone softening.
‘Aria, I know I’ve been neglecting you lately, but Mila is indebted to me. I can’t just watch her die. After the surgery
n three days, my debt to her will be repaid. Then, we can be together properly, okay?”
Aria looked into his eyes and finally nodded.
Okay.”
(nox kissed her once, satisfied, and left.
Had he turned back before leaving, he would have seen a dangerous wildness in Aria’s eyes that he had never witnessed before.
Shortly after Knox left, the hospital called to say her mother had suffered another heart attack and needed mmediate surgery.
By the time Aria rushed to the hospital, her mother was already critical.
The doctor explained that her mother’s condition was complicated, and only Dr. Howard, who had operated on her

previously, could perform the surgery. But unfortunately, Dr. Howard had disappeared over twenty days ago and
hadn’t been found since.
Hearing this, Aria suddenly remembered the blood–soaked face from the underground chamber and felt her heart
turn to ash.
Dr. Howard was dead. She had died twenty days ago, torn apart by wild beasts right before her eyes.
Aria thought numbly: No one could save her mother now.
The light above the operating room flashed on and off several times before the door finally opened.
Someone emerged and said, “We’re sorry. We did everything we could.”
Aria’s mind roared with static; she could no longer hear anything.
When she came to her senses, she had already rushed into the operating room.
A pale, emaciated hand touched her face.
“Don’t… cry, Aria. This isn’t… your fault…”
“From now on, I only hope… you live life… on your own terms.”
Aria stared numbly through her tears.
The only blood relative she had in this world was now leaving her because of her.
Aria trembled with hatred.
She sat in the hospital corridor the entire night.
Only when the first ray of morning sunlight fell across her face did she seem to wake from her trance.
She went to the crematorium, and when she returned to the hospital cradling her mother’s ashes, Mila was waiting
in her room.
With Knox absent, Mila showed her true colors for the first time, the challenge in her eyes almost overflowing.
“Mrs. Rivera, where have you been so early in the morning?”
Aria didn’t respond or even look at her.
“Did you know that in two days, you’ll be giving me your kidney? I’m curious–how does that make you feel right now?”
As she spoke, Mila suddenly began laughing triumphantly.

“Aria, there’s no need to give me that look. Since things have reached this point, I might as well tell you something else.”
“Actually, there’s nothing wrong with me at all.”
“Surprised?” She laughed until tears streamed down her face, “Well, that disgusting kidney of yours certainly won’t be going inside me. More likely, it’ll end up as some stray dog’s dinner.”
Despite saying all this, Aria remained unmoved.
Mila suddenly felt an inexplicable surge of anger. Her eyes widened as she glared furiously.
“Are you deaf or mute? I’m warning you–get out of Knox’s life while you still can!”
“This time it’s just a kidney, but next time it could be your life!”
Aria continued her silence, looking at Mila as if she were already dead.
Mila instantly felt insulted. She lunged forward to teach Aria a lesson when her gaze fell on the small square box Aria was holding.
“What’s that you’re holding?”
Only then did Aria finally speak, her voice ice–cold as she said:
“Get the fuck out.”
Mila was about to retort when she glanced behind Aria. Her eyes instantly turned red.
“Mrs. Rivera, I just came to thank you for donating your kidney. Please don’t be angry–I’ll go now.”
Aria repeated herself.
“Get the fuck out.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Knox stormed in with a dark expression, his voice low–a clear warning sign of impending rage.
‘Who are you talking to like that?”
‘Aria, your repeated hostility toward Mila–are you ignoring my warnings?”
His eyes were piercing as he slowly approached.
‘Do you really want your mother to end up like that interfering doctor?”
Aria stared at him, hatred burning stronger than ever before.

He had the audacity to mention her mother.
Knox looked at her impatiently, his eyes filled with disgust.
“Aria, I’ll tell you one last time: don’t challenge me, especially when you have no power to fight back.”
“Prepare for tomorrow’s surgery. Once Mila recovers, I’ll make it up to you. You don’t want to see your mother’s throat ripped open by wild dogs, right?”
As he left, Mila glanced back at Aria with a look of pure malicious triumph.
Aria felt as if her internal organs were being seared by intense flames. She trembled with hatred.
She wanted to laugh, but tears fell first.
Just then, her phone rang.
“Ms. Winters, we’ve booked your flight back home for tonight. Would you like me to arrange transportation to the airport?”
Aria replied with a single word:
“Yes.”
After hanging up, her gaze gradually darkened as she contemplated something.
Minutes later, she called Riley.
“Get everything ready. Before we leave here, I want to send Knox a special gift.”
At eight that evening, Aria boarded the plane cradling her mother’s ashes.
She took one final look at the place she had called home for eight years.
“Goodbye.”
From this moment forward, she would no longer be anyone’s replacement.
She was just Aria Winters.
And her world would no longer include Knox Rivera.
