Chapter 8
After settling Mila for the night, Knox returned home.
He’d been so busy looking after her that he hadn’t slept properly in days.
In the early hours of the morning, a jarring phone call broke the silence.
“Mr. Rivera, it’s terrible! Something’s happened to Ms. Montgomery!”
When Knox rushed to the hospital, he found doctors and nurses in chaos, with no sign of Mila.
“Where is she?” Knox irritably furrowed his brow, grabbing a doctor by the collar, his tone hostile.
The doctor wiped away sweat, responding nervously: “When the nurse came to check on her in the evening, Ms. Montgomery wasn’t there. We thought the caretaker had taken her out for some air, but…”
Knox fixed him with an icy stare. “Are you telling me she vanished right under your damn noses?”
Hearing that, everyone fell silent, even not daring to breathe.
Just as Knox was about to explode, his phone rang.
The caller directed him to a location, promising he would find the person he was looking for there.
With growing unease, Knox and his men went to the meeting point.
It was an abandoned warehouse.
Upon entering, the overwhelming smell of mold assaulted his nostrils.
In the center of the room sat an enormous box wrapped like a gift.
Moving closer, Knox detected a faint, sickening odor.
He frowned, drew his gun, and ordered his men to open it.
The moment the box opened, everyone froze.
Inside lay a person, her body without a single undamaged patch of skin. Every visible area oozed blood, especially her lower half, which could only be described as mutilated.
Most disturbing was the large bow tied around her neck.
Though her face was covered in blood, Knox instantly recognized Mila.

Chapter 8
Knox maintained his composure despite his inner turmoil. With trembling hands, he checked her breathing
Thank God. Still alive.
Looking closer, Knox noticed writing on the ribbon around her neck:
“Knox, I hope you enjoy my gift.”
Knox paused in shock.
Because he recognized the handwriting–it was Aria’s.
So Mila had been tortured like this on Aria’s orders!
Overwhelming rage consumed him. Knox tore the note into countless pieces.
How dare she?
How dare she do this to Mila!
Knox’s blood boiled, his eyes reddening with fury as he snarled through clenched teeth: “Bring Aria to me immediately. This time, she must learn the consequences of defying me!”
Hearing this, the housekeeper instantly made a call.
After hanging up, he shifted uncomfortably and stammered, “Sir, the hospital says Ms. Winters is gone.”
“What?!” Knox was nearly apoplectic with rage.
“She dares to run? Then bring her mother to me instead! Let’s see how far she can hide!”
To his surprise, the housekeeper gave him a puzzled look. “Sir, don’t you know? Ms. Winters’s mother died of heart failure the night before last.”
Knox nearly thought he’d misheard.
‘What did you say? Who died?”
Seeing Knox genuinely didn’t know, the housekeeper explained, “Sir, Ms. Winters’s mother indeed passed away the night before last. Ms. Winters took her remains to the crematorium early yesterday morning.”
