Chapter 16
Dominic stood before the mansion where he and Emma had once lived, the surveillance footage having been
reviewed countless times.
But the recordings had been thoroughly deleted by Stella, leaving not a single useful clue.
“Keep searching,” his voice was hoarse, bloodshot eyes revealing his exhaustion. “Even if we have to turn North Bay upside down, find her!”
His assistant nervously presented another document: “Mr. Chase, Emma’s identity information has been canceled, and her border crossing records have been erased…”
Dominic clenched his fist until his knuckles turned white.
He frantically utilized every connection, even offering astronomical rewards, but Emma had vanished without a
trace.
He visited every place they’d ever been together–their high school, the amusement park, the mountaintop temple, even the foreign city where she’d studied.
But each time, he found nothing.
Later, he began having frequent nightmares where Emma stood in a pool of blood, coldly staring at him: “Dominic Chase, you pushed me into hell with your own hands.”
When he jolted awake, cold sweat soaked his shirt, his heart aching as if carved out.
Dominic expanded his search, even neglecting company affairs.
He flew between countries, hoping to glimpse that familiar figure.
Three months later, Dominic stood outside a luxury boutique on Montaigne Avenue, gazing emptily at the wedding
dresses in the window.
Emma had once said she preferred simple satin gowns–no lace, no diamonds, just the purest white.
Thinking of this, he twisted his lips in self–mockery.
Those memories had dissipated like bubbles, and now he didn’t even know where Emma was.
Suddenly, his peripheral vision caught a familiar silhouette–cascading hair, a slender figure, walking with a gait
eerily similar to the woman in his dreams.
His heart stopped as he instinctively pursued her.

“Emma!”
The woman didn’t turn, continuing forward.
He quickened his pace, reaching to grab her wrist.
But before he could, a black sedan stopped beside her. The door opened as a well–dressed man took her bag, whispering something that made her laugh softly.
As her profile became visible, it was a completely unfamiliar face.
Dominic froze–not her, just a similar silhouette.
He lowered his hand dejectedly, his throat tight.
ust then, his phone rang, his assistant’s cautious voice coming through: “Mr. Chase, the gala is about to begin. Should
you…”
Dominic closed his eyes briefly, hanging up and walking away.
The moment he turned, in a corner café, Emma slowly lowered her cup, her gaze fleetingly following his retreating igure.
Shane followed her line of sight: “Was that him?”
Emma withdrew her gaze, nodding slightly. She stood, taking Shane’s arm: “Let’s go. We have a gala to attend.”
Emma stood before a full–length mirror, slightly tilting her head to adjust the diamond earrings, the corner of her ips curving into a faint smile.
Dominic Chase will also attend this private gala tonight.” Shane’s voice came from behind as he offered a glass of hampagne. “Your attention has been on him the entire time. Could it be you came for him?”
Emma accepted the glass, her fingertip gently tapping the rim, producing a delicate chime.
You’re overthinking it.”
At the gala, crystal chandeliers cast brilliant light patterns.
Emma held her champagne, conversing effortlessly with European financial representatives, her fluent French and ncisive business insights making her the focal point.
When Dominic entered, his gaze was involuntarily drawn to that figure, whose every gesture conveyed a familiar sharpness.
He frowned slightly, about to approach when she turned, passing him without recognition.
In that moment, he caught the faintest scent of roses.
