“Oh my God, no wonder Duke called off the engagement. If he didn’t, wouldn’t he be wearing a green hat?”
“This woman is shameless. Five men? She must have been starving for it.”
“Good thing Duke was smart. A woman like that would ruin any family she married into. Who knows when she’d
roll into bed with someone else?”
Gavin! How dare he twist the truth like this!
My chest tightened, and before I could speak, Lexi pointed at Gavin and cursed angrily.
“You’re a scumbag! You’re the one who cheated with Rose!”
“You couldn’t find a reason to break up, so you tricked Lily into going to the mountains. You’re not even human!”
“You and Rose are a pair of despicable scum. You’ll both rot in hell!”
Seeing the increasingly dark and menacing look on Gavin’s face, I stepped in front of Lexi to shield her, staring straight at him.
“You know better than anyone why I went to the mountains that day.”
“Gavin Duke, I used to believe that no matter what happened now, at least the three years we spent together were
genuine.”
“But now I see, you’re no different from the rest of the Gilbert family–black–hearted and rotten to the core!”
At that moment, a deep, authoritative voice rang out, silencing the room.
“Enough! Lily Gilbert, after everything that has happened, you’re still twisting the truth?”
“You’ve brought disgrace to the Gilbert family! We’ve already disowned you, and yet you’re still causing trouble?”
“That’s your sister, and Gavin is your brother–in–law. How dare you slander them on their wedding day?”
Everyone turned toward the voice and saw my father, Daniel Gilbert, and my stepmother walking into the room. Behind them was Rose, dressed in her wedding gown.
Looking at the trio before me, I let out a cold laugh.
“You disowned me? Let me remind you–it was I who cut ties with you.”
“And Rose isn’t my sister. I don’t recall my mother giving birth to any so–called sister.”
“This woman climbed her way up as a mistress, and Rose followed in her footsteps, stealing my boyfriend. I guess that’s what they call a daughter following in her mother’s footsteps.”

As soon as I finished speaking, my stepmother put on a face of feigned grievance, looking at me with watery eyes.
“Lily, I know you’ve never liked me. I’ve always treated you like my own child, thinking you were just acting out.”
“But today is Rose and Gavin’s wedding. How could you do this?”
“If you’re angry, take it out on me. Don’t ruin Rose’s happiness.”
Rose clung to my stepmother’s arm, her gaze toward me filled with disdain.
“Mom, why waste your breath on her? A woman like her is just an ungrateful wolf in sheep’s clothing!”
“She keeps calling me a mistress, but if she hadn’t done such shameless things herself, would Gavin have left her?”
“She has no one to blame but herself for being cheap, yet she still tries to take my man. She must be tired of living.”
Daniel Gilbert slammed his cane against the floor several times, his face red with rage, his beard trembling.
“What a disgrace to the family! What a disgrace!”
“Our family arranged this marriage with the Duke family a long time ago. You shamelessly messed around with men, forcing your sister to take your place in the marriage. And instead of being grateful, you dare to twist the truth and ruin her wedding!”
“Dressed like this, are you trying to drive me to my grave? Someone, strip her of that dress right now!”
I stared at Daniel Gilbert in disbelief, unable to comprehend the words coming out of his mouth.
“I am your daughter! Even if you dislike me, how can you say something like that?”
“Look around this room. Do you realize how many people are here? And you want to strip me of my clothes in front
of everyone?”
“Are you even my father? Have you ever, for even a second, treated me as your daughter?”
My accusations echoed through the room, silencing it for a brief moment.
Rose hurriedly patted Daniel Gilbert’s back, feigning concern.
“Dad, don’t be fooled by her. You’ve known her for so many years. Isn’t this just like her? Always sharp–tongued.”
“If she hadn’t disrespected herself, how would she have ended up like this?”
“She lost the marriage and doesn’t reflect on her own mistakes. Instead, she tries to blame Gavin and me.”
