Chapter 7
I heard a crisp “thud” as Mason clutched his knees, his face turning ashen and breaking into a cold sweat, yet not daring to utter a word of defiance.
Mr. Huntington berated him harshly, “Have you lost your mind, Mason? You previously cried and threatened suicide to force me to let Ivy return and marry you! Now that you’ve gotten your wish and married her, you’re
carrying on with someone else? You’re trying to have it both ways!”
With this, he shoved Mason, demanding, “Apologize to Ivy immediately and promise it won’t happen again! Otherwise, there will be consequences!”
The words made my heart sink.
So during those seven years together, Mason had never abandoned his desire to be with Ivy. From beginning to end,
I was merely his pastime.
Ivy put on a show of trying to help Mason up, consoling him: “Dad, it’s fine. It’s my fault for returning so late. Mason
will settle down from now on.”
Mason, trembling, could only stammer, “No… that’s not it, Dad. Ava has been with me for seven years, I…” His words became incoherent and incomprehensible.
At that moment, perhaps even he didn’t understand why he was so insistent today.
Why, despite finally being legitimately with the woman he had longed for, he still wasn’t satisfied.
Watching this scene unfold, my heart remained surprisingly calm.
I understood that Mr. Huntington wasn’t performing this act before me to play the role of a strict father disciplining
his wayward son.
Sure enough, the next moment, Mr. Huntington pulled out his checkbook, wrote down a figure, and handed it to me.
With his chin slightly raised in arrogance, he said, “Stop playing hard to get. Take the money, leave my son alone,
and never come back!”
Seeing this, Mason was completely stunned.
I silently stared at the check. It was ten million dollars–a full ten million.
If only my grandmother could have received this money during her critical illness, how different things might have
been.
But it was too late now.
I gently accepted the check while Mason’s gaze gradually darkened, seeming to lose all energy.

Then, I tore the check in half, placed it on the table, and said calmly, “Chairman, I don’t need this. I’ve already purchased tickets to go abroad. I’m leaving today and will never return.”
Mr. Huntington momentarily showed surprise before quickly composing himself and nodding.
Next second, he took out his phone and after a few operations, my phone received a system notification indicating I was officially no longer employed.
As we exited the room, everyone’s attention naturally gravitated toward us.
Mr. Huntington forcibly held onto Mason while explaining with a formal smile, “Mason and Ivy have been having some disagreements lately. If he said anything strange, please don’t spread it around–it’s all a misunderstanding.”
Everyone nodded thoughtfully, expressing understanding.
Taking advantage of this moment, I went straight downstairs, collected my luggage, and took a taxi to the airport.
Arriving at the airport, I had just ten minutes before boarding. I breathed a sigh of relief. Despite wasting some time, everything was still proceeding according to plan.
But then my phone exploded with calls from Mason. Each time I hung up, he would call again, seemingly desperate.
I simply blocked his number, only for him to immediately bombard me with text messages:
“Where are you?”
“Which airport?”
“Which flight?”
“I’m coming to find you right now. Stay where you are and wait for me!”
Finding this bizarre and increasingly irritating, I quickly typed a response:
“Mason, we are over.”
Then I blocked him completely.
After waiting a little longer at the airport, the boarding announcement came over the speakers. The flight was quite full, and I queued at the back with my suitcase.
Just as I was about to go through security, a commotion erupted behind me. I instinctively looked toward where everyone was staring.
Suddenly, a tall figure enveloped me in a tight embrace.
Mason held me so fiercely, as if trying to merge me into his very bones, making my shoulder blades ache.
He appeared to have run in a great hurry, breathing heavily.

Looking up at me, he smiled with unbridled joy.
“Ava, let’s run away together!”
