My Fiancé Booke
Chapter 16
After word got out about me and Liam, friends–both close and not–so–close–started flooding my phone.
Everyone was pissed on my behalf.
Tons of messages came in, checking on me, asking if I was okay.
Some were gossiping, telling me how bad things had gotten for Liam and Alex.
Apparently, no one even wants to go on a blind date with Liam now.
So the Evans family started pushing Alex to marry him instead.
Kept showing up at her house causing a scene.
Of course, Alex shut that down fast.
While they were yelling in her living room, she just went off and exposed Liam right there.
Said he couldn’t even perform in bed, and now it’s even worse–basically useless–so he should stop dreaming about her marrying into that mess.
That hit Liam right in his fragile little ego.
He snapped and started airing out all of Alex’s dirty laundry.
Turns out she’d been sleeping around with all kinds of guys, using that “we’re just bros” excuse.
Liam wasn’t even the only one.
He claimed a bunch of his married friends had been messing around with her too.
That blew the whole thing sky–high.
A couple of angry wives found Alex and clawed up her face.
Liam’s friends got pissed he ratted everyone out, beat the crap outta him, then cut him off completely.
And somehow, after all that chaos, Liam and Alex still ended up back together.
They even got married.
Guess they figured they were both already ruined, so might as well sink together.
But Alex? She was never the stay–at–home wife type.
She started cheating again–not even hiding it.
Had a bunch of side pieces.
At first Liam just bitched about it, throwing snark and picking fights.

But she
got bolder.
She actually brought one of the guys into their house.
Liam finally snapped, tried to catch them in the act–and got knocked the hell out by the guy.
Flat–out unconscious.
That’s when he started thinking about me again.
He came creeping around my parents‘ house.
My brother spotted him loitering out front and raised a fist just to scare him off.
Liam took off like a damn cartoon character–tripping, scrambling, everything.
But he still wasn’t done.
He showed up outside my job.
That day, I’d just gotten off work and saw someone lurking by the building entrance, bundled up like he was hiding from the
FBI.
It was Liam.
The moment he saw me, his eyes turned red.
He didn’t even wait–just dropped to his knees right there.
‘Sophia, I swear I messed up. I know I messed up.”
‘I shouldn’t have betrayed you. I shouldn’t have thrown away what we had.”
‘Can we go back to how it used to be?”
He looked pathetic.
Yeah, he should feel sorry.
We used to be that couple people envied.
He had a good job, people liked him, and I was there–his ride or die, always fixing his crap.
We were about to start a family.
And now?
He’s got nothing left.
No job. No friends. No future.
Of course he regrets it.
But me?

I felt absolutely nothing.
That love died the second I caught him cheating. And he hit me on top of it?
There’s no coming back from that.
So I looked him dead in the eye and said, “Do I look like the kind of girl who takes out the trash and brings it back home?”
“You’re married to Alex now, aren’t you?”
“That’s not real! We only got married ‘cause we didn’t have any other options,” he whined.
“You don’t know what she’s like, Sophia. She’s insane–no shame at all…”
He went on and on, whining like a damn toddler, too busy playing the victim to see the disgust on my face.
It was pathetic.
“You know what’s funny?” I cut him off.
“Back when you were with me, you trashed me to her.”
“Now you’re with her, and you’re back here trashing her to me.”
“You think the whole damn world owes you something, Liam?”
“You said you were bored with a quiet life, right?”
“So what now? Is all this excitement too much for you?”
He blinked, like he hadn’t even thought of that.
“Yeah… why did I say that?”
He stared at me like he was finally remembering all the good stuff we had–way too late.
His eyes welled up again.
“I’m sorry,” he said, and this time maybe he meant it.
But it didn’t matter.
“Sorry‘ is the most useless word in the English language.”
‘All I ever wanted was someone who wouldn’t hurt me.”
I stepped right past him, walked to my car.
Didn’t look back once.
