Chapter

On the way to the hotel, my mom and best friend each held one of my hands, trying to comfort me

I knew my hands were ice cold

They looked at me like I was made of glass

I tried to smile

Told them I was fine

But my body kept shaking

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop

Seven years

Seven years of memories, love, fights, makeups

Seven years of growing up with the same person

I’m only twentyfive

That means nearly a third of my life was spent with Liam

And now

I had to walk away

Cut him off like he never existed

I could do it

But it was gonna hurt like hell

I never imagined a life without Liam

And I never imagined it would end like this

The hotel Liam booked was just a few blocks from our wedding venue

It was peak holiday seasonrooms were expensive as hell

That place had to cost him over $300 a night

Funny, just two days ago

He was crying about how broke he was from all the wedding expenses

Now I felt sick all over again

Even my best friend, who usually gives people the benefit of the doubt, snapped

What a piece of trash.”

We had so many people with usfamily, friends, cousins-

The hotel front desk staff looked stunned

I’m sorry, we don’t have enough rooms for-”

We’re not here to stay,I interrupted, forcing a smile

We’re here to find someone.”

Oh. Uhjust sign in, please.”

We each signed our names

Then they pointed us to the elevators

This place didn’t even have good soundproofing

We stepped out of the elevator, and boom-

Moaning

Loud, breathy, unmistakable

Dirty talk echoing down the hallway

His room was only a few doors down

And there was no question what was going on inside

I heard everything

My hands clenched into fists

Nails digging into my palms

Didn’t even feel it

Sophia”

My mom wrapped her arms around me, her voice trembling

My brother had had enough

He stormed forward, ready to pound on the door-

But one of my younger cousins stopped him and whispered something in his ear

That cousin’s always been the sneaky one

Whatever he said, it worked

My brother stepped back, then banged on the door

Open up! This is a raid!”

Total chaos erupted inside

Rustling

Panicked whispers

Frantic shuffling

Open the damn door!my brother yelled

Liam finally staggered over and opened it

Hair a mess. Face pale

And then he saw us

Me

My parents

My brother

All my bridesmaids

My uncles, aunts, cousins-

A whole damn squad.

Fifteen people, standing in the hallway

Looking straight at him

Not a word

Just judgment

And disgust
