Because the amount he ingested was small and he was found in time, Julian was rescued. With his past attempts, he was constantly monitored after he woke up this time.
But Julian seemed to be a different person. He started eating normally, showering, and returning to his original life trajectory. He reread those love letters over and over, as if trying to find something
hidden within them.
The sunflowers in the yard were still vibrant. He said they were a gift from Harper. Julian told everyone about Harper’s goodness, always speaking sincerely, his face full of happiness. He seemed
trapped in the past, always refusing to face reality. Everyone said Julian was sick, but he always
denied it.
“If not being able to forget her means I’m sick, then I want to stay sick forever.”
After being discharged from the hospital, Julian first went to his company. Affected by the events of the past few days, the company was in chaos, with many shareholders divesting their shares. Julian, as if escaping, worked day and night in his office, as if trying to bury Harper’s existence in busyness.
When he returned home, it was a month later. The sunflowers had inexplicably withered and fallen, never to revive. Surprisingly, Julian showed no emotion. He simply, calmly sorted Harper’s belongings, locking them away in a safe. The key he hid, and the lock remained untouched.
Ever since Harper left, Julian had never entered Harper’s room. Perhaps he wanted to preserve her scent, or to self–deceptively keep traces of her life.
When the door opened, dust immediately filled the air. Julian’s hands trembled as he took a ring box from the nightstand. Inside was a simple men’s ring. Harper had bought it a long time ago. Those casual jokes about a proposal always held a hint of genuine affection.
Beneath the ring box was a handwritten letter. So much was written there, but Julian no longer had
the patience to read it carefully.
Because beneath the handwritten letter was a medical report. It was Harper’s report, confirming her
pregnancy.
The report was dated the exact same day she had planted the sunflowers. So that was why she had

so directly proposed marriage – because she was carrying their child, a symbol of their love.
Julian suddenly remembered that day at the hospital. He thought he had heard someone talking about something. “So young,” “pregnant,” “can’t speak,” “what a pity.” Such words. But at the time, Julian hadn’t paid any attention. Now, connecting the dots, they were likely talking about Harper.
Julian felt the report in his hand grow impossibly heavy, so heavy he didn’t even have the courage to read on. He was a coward. While she was thinking of solving problems, he had already started to run
away.
He had denied Harper’s love again and again, but no one knew better than him how truly sincere her love had been.
They say when two souls are destined to meet again, they repay that fate in dreams. Yet, for this entire year, he had never once dreamed of Harper. She was long dead. Perhaps she had already reincarnated, found a new family, and found peace.
Hollowed wood. A wildly growing tree.
At that moment, an overwhelming torrent of pain finally erupted. When Julian looked up again, his eyes were brimming with tears. But he couldn’t die; he had to live to atone. He had to do good deeds to earn her a better life in the next.
In the days after Julian was released, everyone said he was about to make a comeback. No one expected him to fire all his employees, sell his company, and donate all his assets.
His money quickly funded projects for children with hearing impairments and abandoned orphans. Trending topics come and go quickly; new things emerge every day, and their past gradually faded into oblivion.
It wasn’t until much later, when a trending topic called “The Harper Foundation” briefly caught fire, that anyone thought of Julian again. But by then, he hadn’t been seen in years. No one knew where he had gone.
Two people who once loved each other so deeply could no longer even greet one another.
