I didn’t want to deal with him and pulled Alex along, ready to leave, but Zane caught up in a few steps and grabbed my hand.
He said, “Claire, did you hear what I said?”
I turned around, impatiently shaking him off, and shot back expressionlessly, “Aiden, what right do you have to question.
me?”
Zane instinctively glanced at Arya.
His tone became urgent and angry: “You’re my brother’s wife! Of course I have to look out for you! Zane just died not long ago, and you’re already with another man. Don’t you have any shame?”
I couldn’t be bothered listening to his high–minded excuses and was about to walk away when Zane blocked Alex’s path.
He said condescendingly, “You should know that Claire has been married, right? The girl you’re holding is her daughter with her husband. Are you really interested in a woman who’s had a
child?”
He paused, then added, “By the way, I’m her husband’s brother. My brother and I look exactly alike – she’s using me as a
substitute.”

Before he could finish, Alex cut him off coldly: “She’s your older brother’s wife. Speaking about her like this – do you have any respect for her at all? Claire and I are classmates. I know exactly what kind of person she is, and I don’t need your commentary.”
Zane’s expression darkened as he snapped, “I’m just giving you a friendly warning! Looks like you two have known each other for a while – don’t tell me you were together before? Claire, you married Zane but still dared to betray him. How shameless!”
I couldn’t take it anymore and walked over to slap Zane hard across the face.
I sneered, “What happens between Zane and me – is that any of your business? What would an outsider like you understand? I dreamed about Zane last night. He said he was sorry and told me to find a good man and start a new life. He also said you’re an animal and told me to stay far away from your whole family.”
Zane blurted out, “Impossible! That’s all fake!”
His face turned ashen, but since I was using his dead brother as an excuse, he was left speechless.
Arya stood to the side, looking at Zane with displeasure before glaring at me hatefully.
Then she linked her arm through Zane’s and said coquettishly, “Let’s go quickly. The doctor said during my prenatal checkup that I need more rest – standing too long isn’t good for our

baby.”
She deliberately pushed out her belly, looking at me

provocatively as she taunted, “Mom said she’s waiting for my baby to be born.”
Zane’s expression shifted slightly, as if he wanted to say something more, but Arya pulled him away.
After they left, Alex frowned and said to me, “He really is an animal! If he bothers you again, just come find me for help.”
I just smiled faintly, thanking him for his kindness, but felt a vague uneasiness in my heart.
I never expected the trouble to come so quickly.
A few days later, one evening as I was coming home from work, passing through a secluded path, someone suddenly covered my mouth and dragged me into the nearby park.
My heart jumped as I struggled violently, biting hard on the hand covering my mouth.
The person groaned in pain, then said, “Claire, it’s me. Don’t move, listen to me!”
It was Zane.
He gripped my wrists tightly and said urgently, “I’ve thought it

through these past few days. I forgive your mistakes – come back. I’ll convince my mom. Stop being stubborn and come home with me.”

I almost laughed out loud, staring at him coldly as I asked, “When did I ever say I wanted to go back? I just want you all to disappear from my sight.”
Zane frowned, staring at me irritably.
After a few seconds, he spoke in an eerie tone: “Claire, do you know who I am? Actually, I’m Zane – the one who died was Aiden. Are you mad that I hid from you while taking care of Arya? She’s pregnant and can’t be upset, so I had to come up with this plan. But I only love you. Come back with me – we’ll raise Lily together, and I’ll be good to you. Okay?”
