Chapter 7
I didn’t reply to a single one.
Just as I picked up my phone, he called again.
I wasn’t planning to answer, but my finger had already hit accept out of habit
Killian’s frantic voice immediately filled my ear.
“Avery, where the hell are you?”
“Why haven’t you answered my calls all night or replied to any of my messages?”
“And who was that guy who picked you up last night? Why have you never mentioned him to me? What’s your relationship with him?”
“Avery, say something! Answer me!”
I have to admit, hearing Killian practically losing his mind on the phone gave me a twisted sense of satisfaction.
I used to watch him and Chloe’s endless flirting until I was so furious I could literally spit blood.
Now he finally got to taste what that felt like!
“Who he is has nothing to do with you,” I shot back.
“Killian, don’t forget–we’re divorced. Even if I have a new man in my life, that’s completely normal!”
‘So it’s okay for you and Chloe to have your little ‘situation‘, but I can’t find someone else?”
Killian didn’t know Davis.
After going against my professor’s wishes and stubbornly marrying Killian, I’d subconsciously avoided everyone and everything connected to her.
Davis was my professor’s son and also my senior at university.
When Killian and I got married, Davis was at a critical point in his research experiment.

So he only sent a wedding gift but never showed up in person.
Now he’d unexpectedly become the reason Killian was losing his mind.
There was a pause on Killian’s end, then he continued, almost in tears.
“Avery, please stop scaring me like this. Chloe and I are completely innocent. I just see her as a sister, there’s nothing between us.”
1 fired back without hesitation.
“Well, there’s nothing between us either. I just see him as a brother. Whatever’s going on with you two, that’s what’s happening with us.”
Killian was about to lose it.
Even through the phone, I could hear his heavy breathing and voice on the verge of breaking.
But the next second, I just hung up.
New day, great mood.
What I didn’t expect was that what I’d said just to mess with Killian, he’d actually taken seriously.
Over the next few days, with my professor’s help, I returned to the research institute.
To quickly get back to where I was three years ago with my research, I completely immersed myself in work, essentially cutting off all contact with the outside world.
Leven turned off my phone completely.
Davis stayed by my side during my recovery training, immediately answering any questions I had.
But what I didn’t realize was that Killian, having lost all contact with me, had practically gone insane.
He’d used his connections to dig up information on Davis and started stalking the research institute.
That evening, after working for more than ten straight hours, Davis had to physically drag me out of
he Aut
Even outside, any mind was still earn the research topic I’d been working on.

Davis looked at me, helplessly.
“Avery, I know you want to catch up on your research level quickly, but your health matters too.”
“Going more than ten hours without eating or drinking–you’ll collapse before you make any breakthroughs.”
I nodded absently, my eyes unfocused.
Obviously, I wasn’t really listening to what Davis was saying.
But at that moment, neither of us noticed Killian standing not far away, his eyes red with anger.
He suddenly lunged forward and smashed his fist right into Davis’s face.
Davis’s lip immediately started bleeding and swelling.
Seeing my exhausted state and vacant expression, Killian protectively pushed me behind him.
“Avery, don’t be afraid. I’m here, I’ll protect you!”
I froze for a second, then came to my senses and shoved Killian to the ground before rushing to Davis’s side.
