‘Are you okay?” I asked my senior, concerned.
‘I’m fine, just a split lip!” Davis replied.
3ut I could see his mouth was bleeding, the inside of his cheek stained crimson when he spoke.
turned around, glaring at Killian like he was my mortal enemy, fury blazing in my eyes.
What the hell is wrong with you, Killian? What gives you the right to hit people?”
He trembled, looking at me with disbelief, his face wearing that puppy–dog wounded expression I’d grown to hate.
‘Avery, I was protecting you. How can you talk to me like this?”
That made me laugh bitterly. Now he wanted to protect me?
Where was this protection when Chloe was bullying me? When she was mocking me to my face? What was he doing then?
Oh right–he was her accomplice in hurting me.
‘The best protection you could give me is to stay out of my life completely,” I spat.
‘Killian, we’re divorced. We have absolutely nothing to do with each other anymore. Why do you keep showing up and disrupting my life?”
His lips tightened into a thin line, his face suddenly draining of all color.
Then came the tearful voice, the head–shaking, the begging.
‘Avery, you’ve misunderstood everything. Our divorce is just temporary–we can remarry anytime!”
I couldn’t believe his audacity.
‘Remarry?” I scoffed. “Did I ever agree to that?”
‘Killian, I never once thought about getting back together with you after our divorce.”

“The biggest mistake of my entire life was falling in love with you three years ago!”
When those words landed, Killian’s body went weak. He had to brace himself against the wall just to
stay standing.
His voice shook uncontrollably, his pupils contracting with shock.
“That’s impossible, Avery. How can you say something so cold–blooded to me?”
“Didn’t we agree the divorce was temporary? That we’d get back together after I calmed Chloe
down?”
Carefully helping Davis to his feet, I turned to Killian with a completely expressionless face.
“That’s just your wishful thinking, dude.”
“Why should I keep playing along with your games, Killian?”
“I used to love you and was willing to sacrifice everything. But now? I don’t love you anymore. You
mean less to me than a stray dog on the street.”
Supporting Davis, I pushed past Killian and took him straight to the hospital for examination and
bandaging.
His entire mouth was torn up inside, yet he still found the energy to joke with me.
“That’s another bullet I’ve taken for you. Why is it that whenever I’m with you, Avery, I’m the one who ends up injured?”
Tears had been forming in my eyes, but his words made me burst out laughing.
I gave him a mock glare, putting on a haughty expression.
“Being injured for my sake should be considered your honor.”
Joking and laughing, I dropped Davis off at his home.
Just as I was about to turn and head to my nearby rental apartment, Killian appeared in front of me again. He’d obviously calmed down and had clearly discovered who Davis was.
“He’s your professor’s son. Your senior from university, right?”

“Avery, you don’t need to use him as a shield to make me jealous.”
I couldn’t believe he’d been stalking me.
Then I laughed in disbelief.
“Who said I’m using him as a shield? And who says senior and junior classmates can’t become
lovers?”
“Killian, you and your childhood sweetheart can be inseparable, but suddenly I can’t be with my university senior?”
It was like I’d shattered every last defense in Killian’s heart.
His eyes reddened, his voice breaking with sobs.
“Avery, do you have to torture me like this, over and over?”
“If you don’t like Chloe, I’ll stop seeing her, okay? Let’s get remarried right away. We’ll never be apart again.”
I let out a cold snort, about to speak-
When suddenly Chloe appeared out of nowhere.
She stared at Killian with panic in her eyes, but underneath that, I caught a flash of something
vicious.
