Chapter 9
“What did you just say, Killian?” Chloe’s voice cracked.
“You’re leaving me for this bitch?”
I instinctively frowned.
I’d barely registered that something seemed off about Chloe when Killian started stammering a
response.
“Chloe, whatever it is, we can talk about it later. Right now, I need to clear things up with Avery!”
Chloe, who had always been Killian’s obedient little follower, wasn’t having it this time. She screamed hysterically.
“No!”
“I heard everything you just said, Killian!”
“You can’t leave me. I won’t let you leave me!”
Killian, embarrassed and furious, started shouting back.
“Chloe, you’re a grown woman now. I have my own life. Why do you keep clinging to me?”
“My marriage with Avery has fallen apart eight times because of you. When are you going to leave
me alone?”
“Your life IS mine! If she won’t marry you, then I will!”
The words burst out of Chloe’s mouth, shocking Killian into silence.
He stared at her in horror, like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“Chloe, you’ve lost your mind. You must be insane to say something like that!”
But Chloe doubled down, completely unapologetic.
“Why can’t we be together? We’ve known each other since we were kids!”

Killian shook his head frantically, and I could see the disgust growing in his eyes as he looked at her.
“You know I’ve only ever seen you as a little sister. I could never marry you or be with you that way.”
“Starting today, you need to move out of my house!”
His words were final, cutting like a knife, and Chloe couldn’t accept it.
The two of them started struggling right there in the street.
I stood to the side, letting out a cold laugh, ready to walk away.
But what happened next left me stunned.
Chloe’s eyes had turned bloodshot, her entire demeanor becoming disturbingly strange.
“Impossible. I’ll never let you leave me, Killian!”
Then She pulled a small knife from her pocket and started stabbing Killian repeatedly in the chest.
Bright red blood splattered across her face.
She didn’t panic at all. Instead, she just laughed maniacally.
“Killian, you can only be mine.”
I was about to intervene when a gentle pair of hands covered my eyes.
“Don’t look. I’ve already called the police. Come with me.”
Davis took my hand and quickly led me away from the scene.
I didn’t know much about what happened after that.
For a long time, there was no news of Killian or Chloe.
About six months later, I was giving a presentation on my research team’s latest findings at a
conference.
I spotted Killian in the audience.
Surprised, I blurted out:

“You’re not dead?”
Realizing how terrible that sounded, I immediately apologized.
‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.”
Killian gave a bitter laugh.
‘I know. But I guess this was my karma. I deserved it.”
He had spoiled Chloe, raising her to believe she was above the law and could do whatever she
wanted.
I nodded and was ready to end the conversation there.
Killian sensed my intention, and a flash of pain crossed his eyes.
‘I heard you married your senior?”
My face softened immediately.
I showed off the wedding ring on my finger.
‘Yes, we got married recently. I’m very happy now.”
At least I didn’t have to worry about when the next divorce would happen.
Or wonder when we’d be remarrying again.
Killian’s already pale face turned paper white.
He started talking, mostly to himself.
He told me he’d sent Chloe to prison.
Then he started bringing up our past together.
He said he regretted everything.
Too bad there’s no medicine for regret in this world.
