Chapter 30
Victoria paused, then met her gaze. “That wasn’t part of our original agreement. Are you backing
out?”
Yes, she was.
Sonia lowered her eyes, fighting back the bitterness. “I’ve disappointed you.”
Victoria closed her eyes and let out a soft sigh. “Fine. If you want a divorce, then divorce him. I gave you a chance. But you couldn’t change Conrad’s heart–couldn’t even give us an heir. Our family owes you nothing now.”
Sonia’s chest felt heavy. “Thank you,” she replied, her voice hoarse.
When she returned to Silverwood Apartments, she happened to run into Diana, her son Caleb, and
Conrad downstairs.
They had arrived in Conrad’s car.
Sonia stood frozen in place.
Diana looked at her with surprise. “Miss Coleman? You live at Silverwood too?”
Sonia instinctively glanced at Conrad, but he showed no reaction.
His indifference cut deeper than any words could.
Silverwood Apartments was one of New York’s luxury complexes, part of the Fairfax family’s
property portfolio.
It was also the new home they had bought together as newlyweds.
She never imagined he would bring Diana and her son here too.

Chapter 3
How desperately he must want to be with them every moment.
“What a coincidence,” Sonia said quietly, suppressing her emotions.
As Diana turned to leave, she spoke again: “Miss Coleman, I heard you’re married. How come we
never see your husband around?”
Sonia’s steps faltered.
Her gaze flickered toward Conrad, whose eyes darkened with warning.
Sonia laughed bitterly to herself. Was he really that terrified of Diana discovering their relationship?
“I don’t have a husband,” she said flatly.
Conrad froze, and a shadow crossed his usually calm eyes.
He seemed unprepared for Sonia to be so blunt.
“But Miss Coleman, your employment records show you as married,” Diana said, her smile
unchanged.
When she’d been hired, she had indeed listed her marital status as married.
Yet no one had ever seen this supposedly existing husband.
Sonia forced a mocking smile and said, half–truthfully: “I used to have a husband. But we’ve
separated.”
The moment she finished speaking, Conrad’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
Since she had already decided to leave, she no longer cared about Conrad’s feelings.
He wouldn’t care anyway–he’d probably be thrilled to cut all ties with her.
