Chapter 8
She pushed through the crowd and saw Conrad protectively shielding Diana.
He had intercepted a client’s hand mid–swing, preventing it from striking Diana.
Diana cowered pitifully in his arms, fear written all over her face.
The client seemed intimidated by Conrad’s imposing stature.
“Who… who are you?” he stammered.
Conrad forcefully pushed the man back. “Can’t we resolve this without violence?”
“Ask her!” The man angrily pointed at Diana. “This morning, I discovered a million dollars in my account had been frozen–that’s my life savings! I came to your company to ask what happened, and she mocked me, saying if I couldn’t handle such minor fluctuations, I shouldn’t keep my money in your company’s network accounts!”
“She also said this small amount of money wasn’t worth her effort to help investigate, and that it
could stay frozen!”
“That’s not how it happened.”
Diana protested tearfully, looking up at Conrad. “I was just too exhausted from working with everyone on yesterday’s cyberattack, so I suggested he find another employee to handle his issue…”
Conrad nodded. “I’ll take care of this.”
He turned to the man. “She’s genuinely not feeling well–she didn’t mean to disrespect you. I’ll get an expert to solve your problem right now, and if our company’s error caused you any losses, we’ll
provide double compensation.”
These words immediately eased the tension. The man grumbled about his bad luck and reluctantly
followed the staff member who came to handle his problem.
“Sorry for causing you trouble, Conrad.” Diana looked at him with sincere concern. “You didn’t need to intervene. What if you had gotten hurt?”

Chapter 8
Conrad smiled slightly. “Your safety is what matters most.”
“Ms. Eaton, is Mr. Fairfax your boyfriend?” someone asked.
Diana shyly lowered her eyes. “No, don’t be ridiculous…”
‘Come on, you two look perfect together!” The onlookers joined in the teasing.
As the crowd laughed, Conrad’s gaze swept across the room and found Sonia.
When their eyes met, her heart clenched painfully, her mouth filled with bitterness.
Her husband stood there, intimate with another woman.
She didn’t belong here.
