Chapter 9
When Conrad spotted Sonia in the shadows, his expression darkened, and he instinctively wanted to
walk toward her.
However, just as he lifted his leg, Diana grabbed his arm.
“Conrad, I still don’t feel well. Could you take me to the hospital?”
He frowned, his gaze lingering where Sonia had disappeared, then nodded.
On the way, Diana noticed his distraction and smiled as she moved closer to him.
“Conrad, Caleb wants to attend a private kindergarten, but he doesn’t have the proper residential
status. I was wondering if we could temporarily register him under your name…”
Afraid of rejection, Diana quickly added: “Don’t worry, it’s just temporary. No one would know.”
Conrad looked at her intently.
Diana met his gaze, though her hands clenched nervously. “Conrad… are you angry with me?”
“Adopting him in my name wouldn’t be appropriate,” Conrad said bluntly, “but I could have my
mother adopt him, making him her stepson.”
Diana was stunned.
A stepson of the Fairfax family… that would put Caleb on equal footing with Conrad in terms of
status.
If her son became Conrad’s “brother,” how would she, as his mother, position herself?
Conrad watched her, his deep eyes unreadable. “You don’t agree?”
Diana immediately masked her displeasure. “Fine… whatever you decide is good.”
He acknowledged with a nod and said nothing more.

Diana clenched her fingers tightly. This wasn’t what she wanted. But she couldn’t rush things.
As long as her son entered the Fairfax family and won over the elders, she would have her chance to urn things around.
Conrad didn’t come home all night.
n the past, Sonia would have left a light on for him, but not anymore.
Whether he came home or not no longer mattered.
As Sonia was about to leave for the company, she unexpectedly encountered Diana and her son
lownstairs.
Diana wasn’t affectionately holding her son’s hand like she had the previous times when Conrad was present. Caleb stood alone at the stairwell entrance, nervously fidgeting with his sleeves.
Sonia intended to walk past them, but Diana called out: “Ms. Coleman.”
Sonia stopped and turned around. “Is there something you need?”
‘Ms. Coleman… do you dislike me?”
Diana asked while carefully studying her face.
‘You’re overthinking it,” Sonia replied.
They barely knew each other–talking about liking or disliking was absurd.
Diana walked over with her son.
‘I’m glad to hear that. By the way, are you heading to work? I need to go there too after dropping off
my son.”
Diana continued, “Since we’re going the same way, I’ll have Conrad give you a ride in a bit.”
