She had just settled into the chair when the door sprung open again and Rami came in rushing, “come, come.
“What?”
“They know we brought you this way and Liborio has rounded up everyone but the three of us. We need you as a hostage.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
“We are going to use you as a hostage.”
“Rami.”
“Not for real. It is a stall tactic. We are going to use you as a way to get our men back. We won’t turn you over to him. We’re going to hole up in the kitchen where it is warm and with food. One way in. One way out. You will be surrounded by all of us, but he is going to kill our captain and five of our men and,” he was waving his
hand.
“No!” she held her hand up. “Do not explain. Let’s go. Hell. I’ll even go with him if it means I’m saving your lives. I can’t let you all die.” She was racing to follow him.
“We need to make this look good. We want him to think we kidnapped you from the beginning, so he doesn’t punish you for hiding. It is important. I don’t want him to hurt you.”
“I understand Rami.”
“Can you act scared?”
“No need to act. I am scared.” She admitted. “Why the hell are Belkin and his men still so far away?”
“They aren’t.”
“What?”
Rami laughed, “Liborio has been so caught up in searching for you on the ship he’s exhausted himself. When he finally fell asleep last night, the captain started taking the boat back towards Nice. We gained five hours back and managed to get turned back as if we were heading in the right direction, so he has no idea. While I’m grabbing you, my group are calling Belkin to give him coordinates.”
She suddenly lurched forward as the ship came to a grinding halt. “What was that?”
“That is the engine being shut down while we get ready to negotiate the release of our men. It also allows for Belkin to do his thing and get to us faster.” Rami nodded in his excitement and then motioned to the three men huddled near the door. “Are you ready? I am going to put my revolver on your back and I may even need
to put it at your head. I am sorry.”
“Do it.”
The cook from the kitchen spoke rapidly to Rami and Rami translated quickly, “Belkin is on his way. They’ve mobilized rather quickly. He said something about bringing Donkey Kong. What the hell does that mean?”
“I have no idea. Like the video game ape?”

“Yes. Our boss loves the video games from the eighties and,” he was translating as the other man spoke. said he’s bringing a real–life Donkey Kong.”
She giggled, “oh my goodness. He must mean Cruz. My fiancé. He’s massive. As big as Dave Bautista of The Rock. My girlfriends and I giggle he’s an ape, in fact, Sloane calls him a gorilla to his face all the time. I bet
she did it in front of Belkin and it stuck.”
“He is very strong?”
“Played Olympic level rugby.”
“I hope he gets to punch Liborio in the face.”
“I kind of hope he throws barrels down the stairs at him,” she retorted, the brief levity making her feel better. He translated quickly back to the team, and they all shared a laugh. He took his weapon from his pocket and with an apologetic nod, put it against her back and began leading her up the stairs.
They walked from the back of the ship to the front where a bunch of men were congregated and several in blue coveralls and the one man in a white suit were on their knees with multiple guns at their head.
Liborio’s voice rang out, “I do not know who is hiding my soon–to–be–bride but if she is not in front of me in the next three minutes, I start shooting.”
“Here!” Rami called out, wrapping his arm around Presley’s neck and putting the gun to her temple. His whispered sorry made little difference to her.
She couldn’t stop staring at the men on the ground and the one other battered body which was laying in front of them. It looked like Odin took yet another beating and she wasn’t sure if he was alive. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at her brother. “Odin.”
“Presley, get over here,” Liborio held his hand out impatiently.
“She is going nowhere. You release my comrades and send them to me, and we will trade. If you do not, I put a bullet in her head. I tell you now Liborio, I have no problem killing your woman after what you have done.” Rami called out, “taking the captain’s wife and child hostage and making them stay in a bunkroom with ten men they don’t know. They are females and they are scared and want to be with their family. Everything you have stood for in the last twenty years is a joke. Your sister is rolling in her grave.”
Liborio moved to the captain and put a gun to his head, “you will send her to me now or that woman and her child will lose the head of their little family.”
“Do not let her go!” the captain yelled out. “My wife will understand my life to save everyone else’s is a small price to pay.”
“Pull that trigger, Liborio and I pull mine.” He c****d the hammer of the gun, “also you will note we are man can do what he short. Only eleven of us. Number twelve is getting acquainted with your female bodyguard. He found her attractive. We told him if it comes down to all of us dying because of your woman, the wants with the other one.”
“What?” Presley whispered from the corner of her mouth.
“He’s nowhere near her. If you look to the top of the ship where the helm is located, you will see our last man hiding and keeping a close eye on what is happening down here. If the rest of us die, he will report everything back to Belkin by surviving.”

“Jesus.”
“Where is Estrella?” Liborio suddenly noted his only female staff on the ship was not in attendance. Find her.
“You won’t find her, Liborio!” Rami called out and roughly jostled Presley. “We will kill both women without any reservation. You commandeered our ship. You violated our agreements with your family. You forced our captain to comply. Someone would think you’ve grown desperate Liborio. You even beat a man to death just to make him tell you if he saw his sister.”
“What?” she gasped at Odin. “Is he dead?”
“He is not dead!” Liborio called back. “Presley I have not killed him. He is a little battered and a little bruised He was overheard talking to one of these men about making sure I didn’t suspect he would help them. He played me for a fool.” He walked to Odin and gave him another kick to the ribs. “f*****g Brookmores and their pranks!”
“Stop!” she screamed as he delivered another kick. “He’s not even moving.”
“He still breathes,” Liborio seemed disgusted by this notion.
“He is my brother.”
“He traded you!” Liborio yelled. “He is the one who told these fools to take you!”
She knew there was a fault in the story somewhere, but she wasn’t going to be the one to explain it. She’d left her room, found the cook, and got hidden. It had nothing to do with Odin. Odin told her himself in front of Estrella he hoped she died.
“Enough talk!” Rami called out. “Release my comrades now or we go back the way we came, and she comes with us. Right now, your sniper is not able to get a good bead on us because we know this ship and we are standing where we need to be. You made a mistake taking a boat we’ve used multiple times for runs and we know it better than you can even imagine. We know all the safe places. We know all the hiding spots. We know it inside and out and you are a f*****g i***t thinking we would let you take the captains wife and daughter without payback? f**k you, Liborio.” Rami adjusted the weapon at Presley’s temple and made a show of tightening his grip around her neck. “Let my men go.”
“No, you send her to me now!” Liborio held his hand out.
“He’s a sick son of a b***h, isn’t he?” Presley grumbled.
“f**k I wish we were graced with more than one gun.” Rami grunted.
“Just shoot him.” Presley hissed back.
“Send her to me.” Liborio argued loudly.
“When my men are here beside me, I will release her. We were hoping to use her as leverage for our escape and it is why we took her from her room but if you don’t release my men, she dies, here
now.”
“Liborio,” she called out with tears on her face, real ones as she regarded her barely breathing brother,” please. I’m scared. I’m really scared. I don’t want to die. They were talking on the way over here about throwing me overboard with a bullet in my brain and nobody ever finding my body. Please. I don’t want to die.” She pretended to struggle against Rami.
“Presley, don’t cry.” Liborio held his hand up. “You will not die. I won’t let you. We’re going to be a family, you
< Hostage and me and our children. I cannot wait to see our children growing in your belly. You’re so beautiful and our
children will have your beautiful red hair and your sweet loving heart.” He was talking to her passionately.
“They’re going to kill me.” She screamed as Rami almost laughed in her ear about how good she was doing.
“Fine!” he held up his hand to Rami. “Send her over here and I will release your men.”
“Do you take me for a fool, Liborio? I want my men and my captain’s wife and child here and we want the lifeboat and passage out of here. When we have that, you can have her.”
“We will start with the men here,” Liborio argued and pushed the captain. “In good faith you will send her to
me.”
“You’ll kill us the minute she is with you.”
“I will not. You have my word.”
“Your word means nothing considering you’ve crossed every f*****g boundary and treaty you’ve ever signed with my boss. We are bratva. We didn’t trust you when we were friends, we sure as f**k don’t trust our
enemies.”
“That’s a great line. I might use that in a book.” Presley whispered.
“You make jokes when you are scared,” Rami noted in his own whisper.
“True,” she sniffed her tears. “My brother is really hurt. He didn’t even make a face when Liborio kicked him.” “Send her now!” Liborio called out as he was pacing in front of the kneeling men.
“You send them here and we want our mole. Send us the brother too. I’m counting down from five Liborio. We are prepared to die but we will not die alone. We will take her with us. Five,” he called out, “four, three, two.”
“Stop!” Liborio roughly grabbed the captain by the collar of his suit and yanked him to his feet. “Go. Take your f*****g men and get off this ship.”
“My wife and daughter?”
Liborio nodded to a man near the side stairs who dragged a woman who was holding a child in her arms forward. They raced to the captain. The group of men who were on their knees moved to lift Odin’s comatose body into their arms and carried him towards where Rami held Presley against his chest.
“Now let her go.”
“No can do,” Rami grinned as they formed a protective wall around her and slowly backed away down the side stairs. “We’re keeping her until our pakhan arrives. Good luck dealing with him.”
“f**k!” Liborio screamed into the air as they raced away down the stairs. “Get her back!” he ordered his men who were running after them.
Once they were barricaded in the kitchen they placed Presley right in front of the door.
“He won’t shoot through the door if you’re there.”
She looked around at all the extra furniture the bunk which was now completely blocking the door in surprise, “what is all this?”
“We’ve been planning since you were sleeping on how to secure this room.”
“What now?”

“Now,” Rami sighed as he looked at where they were laying Odin onto a counter to examine him, “we wait”
