Chapter 19
Jackson blinked, stunned. “W–What?”
“DONNA!” Mateo shouted. “She almost
strangled Trina to death! Then she stabbed
her!”
Jackson froze.
Mateo stepped closer, fire in his eyes. “She
almost DIED. And it’s all because of you. You
let that woman into your life. You let her near Trina. You stood by while she poisoned your

daughter, destroyed your marriage–and now
she almost ended it permanently.”
“I didn’t know—-” Jackson muttered, guilt
creeping into his face.
“Too late for that!” Mateo snapped. “You lost
her the moment you believed Donna over
your own wife. Now stay out of her life-
forever. Because if you ever come near her
again, Jackson-I won’t be so kind.”
Jackson looked at him, shame burning in his
eyes, but he said nothing. What could he

say? There were no excuses left.

Mateo turned back to the door and clenched
his fists. He would wait. For hours if he had to.
Until Trina woke up. Until she opened her
eyes and knew she was safe.
Because as long as he was breathing, no one
-no one–would ever hurt her again.
“I’ll help you,” Jackson said again,
desperation thick in his voice. “I’ll do
whatever you want. I know I don’t deserve it-
but I want to be part of making things right

for Trina. Please.”
Mateo finally moved, his gaze narrowing.
“You want to help?”
Jackson nodded fervently.
Mateo’s voice turned cold. “Then stay out of
her life. That’s help enough.”

But Jackson pressed further, “Let me be part
of this. Please. I want Donna gone as much as
you do. For Trina.”

Mateo looked down at the man who had
once broken Trina’s heart, clenched his jaw,
then slowly stepped back. “I’ll handle it. You
won’t have to get your hands dirty.”
“Then how?” Jackson asked, eyes pleading.
Before Mateo could answer, the elevator
doors dinged open. Tania stepped out,
holding the hand of a young boy—Zane. His
face was streaked with tears, his tiny
shoulders trembling.
“Grandma Trina will die,” Zane sobbed, his

voice echoing down the hallway. “She’ll die
because of me. I said bad things… Aunt
Donna said Grandma Trina was evil…”
Tania’s face was pale, her eyes rimmed red.
She looked at the two men, then at her
broken father, then to the ICU doors where
her mother was still fighting to live.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I’m sorry for
everything.”

Mateo’s gaze softened slightly at the sight of
the boy, but his words remained firm. “You

can be sorry, Tania. But I don’t know if Trina
will ever forgive you. You didn’t just hurt her-
you abandoned her.”
Tania’s lips quivered, and she bent down to
hold Zane close. “We’ll make it up to her. I’ll
make it up to her.”
Mateo turned away, not saying another word,
and stared at the ICU doors, silently praying
that Trina would open her eyes again.
Across town, Donna sat in a stark, sterile
police station waiting room, confused.

Minutes ago, she had been in custody for
attempted murder.
Now, the officer behind the desk handed her
a signed release form and said the charges
were dropped due to “insufficient evidence.”

She didn’t question it. She didn’t even dare to
speak. Just signed where they told her and
walked out with trembling fingers.
Back at her flat, she moved frantically,
throwing clothes into a suitcase, her eyes darting with panic. Her fingers stumbled

across her passport, and with a deep breath,
she booked the next flight to Singapore.

“I need to get out,” she whispered. “It’s over.”
As she packed, memories flooded in
uninvited. She saw Trina’s smile–years ago-
when they had first met in college. Trina was
warm. Naive, maybe, but good. She used to
bring extra food to share. Helped Donna with
her rent once. Even introduced her to her
friends.
Trina never saw Donna as competition.

But Donna… Donna had started comparing
everything. The way people looked at Trina
with admiration, how Jackson started to drift
away from her even while he was with Trina. It
festered–slowly, surely. Until jealousy
became venom, and that venom seeped into
everything.
She sabotaged Trina’s image. Made Jackson
question her loyalty. Whispered lies into
Tania’s ear. And when that wasn’t enough,
she replaced her–took over her life like a
parasite feeding on the ruin she had created.

“I didn’t mean for it to go this far,” she
murmured now, her hands frozen over her
suitcase. “I just… wanted to be her. And then I
wanted her gone.”
A tear fell down her cheek. “But she was
always better than me. Always.”

It was too late now. She couldn’t say sorry.
Not when her hands were stained with Trina’s
blood.
“I have to disappear.”

She snapped the suitcase shut and called a
taxi. Within minutes, it arrived. A black
vehicle, tinted windows. She didn’t think
twice. Just got in.
“Airport, please,” she said quietly.
The driver said nothing–just began to drive.
Minutes passed. The route didn’t feel right.
She frowned. “Uh… this doesn’t look like the
way to the airport?”

Her heart pounded. “Excuse me? Where are
we going?“.
The driver glanced at her through the
rearview mirror, a chilling calm in his eyes.
“You’re not going to the airport.”
Donna’s blood turned to ice. “What do you
mean?”
He drove further into a remote path–trees
replacing buildings, silence thick in the air.

“You’re going to pay,” the driver said slowly,
“for what you did to Trina.”
Donna’s breath hitched.

And then she screamed.
