Chapter 6
I tutored these elementary school twins – two little boys who never stopped talking
Kids that age are basically tiny chans machines, constantly firing questions like human machine g..
“Miss Liana, how come you never smile?““”
“Miss Hana, have you ever raten poop?”
That one actually broke through my poker face “Obviously not.”
But they only processed the parts they wanted to hear.
The poop investigation continued full steam ahead.
“What do you think poop tastes like though?”
“Is it like blue cheese – smells nasty but tastes awesome?”
My head was throbbing. I was so tempted to say, “Why don’t you take a bite and find out?”
But I didn’t dare.
Because with seven–year–olds, there’s always that wild card chance they actually do it.
And then I’d be forever known as The Tutor Who Got Kids To Eat Poop.
After a marathon afternoon explaining parallel and perpendicular lines to byperactive twins, I was finally done.
I said my goodbyes to the parents and headed to my usual bus stop by the neighborhood entrance.
My phone kept blowing up with notifications. Both my school group chat and family that were going crazy.
It was 4:30
SAT scores were out.
Dad was out of town on business, so he was tagging Rosalia and men the family chat, telling us to check our stores ASAP and “share the good news” (meaning Rosalia’s score
Rosalia texted that she was out but would check on her laptop when she got home.
I didn’t bother responding. Dad wasn’t actually interested in my scores anyway.
1 pulled up the College Board portal, but the website was crawling
Just then, my bus arrived. I tapped my card and slid into my usual back row seat.
My hands were seriously shaking–took me a solid two minutes just to get my transit card back in my wallet.
The website was still loading.
Even though I was pretty confident, my heart was doing Olympic–level gymnastics,
The bus cruised smoothly, passing through a thick stretch of maple trees that darkened the whole bus
My phone screen glowed super bright against the shadows. The white loading page suddenly flashed to the results screen.
My eyes jumped straight to the total scorp
Starting with 15..
1 let out this huge breath I didn’t even know I was holding

It was enough.
