Chapter 8
Half a month later, I was finally strong enough to get out of bed and walk again.
Leo supported me gently as we strolled through the private hospital’s garden.
“Mr. Foster!” Gregory rushed over, sweat pouring from his forehead. “The Alexander family has already lost five listed companies during this time. Ethan must have realized his mistake. Please…”
“You’re lucky,” Leo said coldly. “Luna’s awake. You can take Ethan back.”
When Ethan emerged, he looked gaunt and pale. As soon as he saw me, he rushed over. “Luna! Are you alright?”
Leo blocked him, his eyes sharp and cold.
“Hurry up,” Gregory muttered, dragging his son’s arm.
As they walked away, I was left with mixed emotions.
Leo handed me a cup of warm water. “Are you tired? Any discomfort?”
Back in the ward, a little girl with pigtails sat on my bed, her legs swinging.
“Are you the one my uncle’s always watching over?” she tilted her head curiously. “Mom saic you’re my future aunt.”
Leo’s ears turned red. “Daisy Foster! Who let you run off again?”
She hopped off the bed, pulled a candy from her pocket, and pushed it into my hand. “Uncle hasn’t come home for two weeks. He’s been staying here with you. Grandma said he even skipped company meetings.”
She took my finger and leaned close. “Auntie, let me tell you something. Uncle-”
“Daisy!” Leo barked through clenched teeth.
She stuck out her tongue and quickly said, “Uncle built you a giant glass greenhouse! It’s full of flowers!”
I looked up, startled, catching Leo’s slightly flushed face.
After a pause, he extended his hand. “Want to… go see it?”
As the car pulled into the quiet estate, a dazzling glass building shimmered in the sun.
The moment I opened the door, a gentle orchid fragrance filled the air–rare, precious varieties everywhere.
‘These…” My voice shook.
‘How did you know I loved orchids and dreamed of a glass greenhouse?”
Leo pulled a worn stuffed bear from his pocket. “Recognize this?”
Suddenly, it all came back. Eighteen years ago, in a storm, I saved a drowning boy by the river- this soaked stuffed bear was clutched tightly in his arms.
Now it made sense. In my past life, when the Everly family went bankrupt, the Foster Group suddenly stepped in to help.

My fingers trembled as I touched the old toy.
“I thought…” Leo said softly, “You were in love with Ethan.”
His gaze dropped on the bear. “Until your assistant showed up looking for a male model…”
“Luna,” he took a breath. “You can still change your mind.”
I held the bear tightly and shook my head. “Who said I ever regretted it?”
His pupils quivered, and his steady hands trembled as he stepped closer.
After I was discharged, Leo and I quietly began planning our wedding.
One day, while trying on dresses at a bridal shop, my phone suddenly flashed with breaking news: Ethan’s sports car had been in a severe rear–end crash on the highway.
The sleek black vehicle was twisted and mangled.
Just then, a shaky voice echoed behind me.
“Luna!”
Ethan stood at the shop’s entrance, his right arm in a cast, blood seeping from a fresh bandage.
His face was ashen, and his voice trembled. “Luna… can we talk?”
