Chapter 10
During my hospital stay, Preston came by remarkably often.
Sometimes carrying the latest Prada and Chanel pieces, claiming he was bringing me changes of clothes.
Sometimes with thermal containers, saying the family chef had made stomach soothing soup specially for me.
But without exception, each time Cade blocked him outside the room with a cold expression.
Actually, in all our years together, he’d never cared about these little things. He didn’t even remember my birthday, yet he remembered Iris’s cycle.
Thinking of this, I suddenly burst out laughing.
Cade, who was organizing discharge papers, looked up and asked what I was giggling about.
“Preston said I was the love of his life–that’s hilarious.” As I said this, I found it funnier than ever, almost laughing
to tears.
Cade threw down the folder and pinned me to the bed, eyes narrowing:
“Aria, thinking about men is fine, but not that twice married idiot.”
I stopped laughing and asked seriously: “So I really can think about other men?”
He suddenly grinned mischievously, pinching my nose: “In your dreams!”
I rolled my eyes and pinched his cheek in return: “What about just thinking about you, Prince Frost?”
Suddenly he shot up, ears turning red: “Aria, you’ve learned to sweet–talk men!”
I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. He caught it smoothly and handed it back to me.
As our eyes met, he said softly: “For life, you can only sweet talk me.”
After that, Preston never appeared again.
Cade and I enjoyed a few peaceful, happy days together, met each other’s parents, and decided to get married.
The wedding day was when I saw Preston again after three months–he sat alone quietly in the very last row, noticeably thinner, looking terribly haggard.
When Dad walked me down the aisle toward Cade, Preston suddenly rushed over and blocked my path.

“Aria, come with me!” He reached out to grab me.
I immediately stepped back: “Preston, last wedding you abandoned me, now you’re crashing this one–what did I ever do to you?”
He shook his head frantically, voice trembling: “No, it’s not like that. I refused to remarry Iris and got kicked out of the family. You’re all I have now, Aria.”
“But I don’t want you either.” I sneered. “I’m sick of you, completely fed up with you. Please GET OUT OF MY LIFE!”
Those words seemed to pierce him. He staggered backward, throat working but unable to speak.
Cade strolled over leisurely, knuckles already cracking. I gently pulled him back, not wanting the wedding ruined.
Dad spoke sternly: “Preston, do I need to have another chat with your grandfather?”
At those words, Preston’s face went deathly pale.
He knew that disturbing the old master again would have consequences far worse than being disowned.
He looked at me wretchedly, voice barely audible: “Aria, can we really… never go back?”
I didn’t answer, just tightly gripped Cade’s hand and walked toward the altar without looking back.
Preston stood silent for a long time under the guests‘ contemptuous stares, then finally walked out looking lost.
But no one noticed the sneaky figure lurking outside the hall–it was Iris.
Seeing Preston come out, she rushed to the parking lot ahead of him.
When Preston appeared at the entrance in a daze, she didn’t hesitate to ram him with her car.
Watching Preston lying in a pool of blood, she got out and threw herself beside him, kneeling to hold his gradually cooling body: “Preston, you know me–what I want, I’ll never let go of, even in death.”
Two days later, Cade and I were arguing over honeymoon destinations we’d found on our phones when a breaking news alert suddenly popped up:
[BLACKWELL FAMILY HEIR PRESTON BLACKWELL DIES TODAY AFTER FAILED EMERGENCY TREATMENT]
But neither of us paid it any attention. We didn’t even click on the news content and continued our argument.
Unable to reach a conclusion through arguing, it escalated into me tugging his ear while he pulled my hair ribbon, until I suddenly leaned over and planted a light kiss on his lips. Cade immediately took control and deepened the
kiss.
“Aria, you’ve got me completely wrapped around your finger for life!”
