Chapter 3
Hearing my words, he was clearly stunned, then suddenly pulled me into a tight hug: “Aria, baby, stop this. I know you’re upset about the marriage certificate. We’ll get it in a few days, okay?”
“Iris won’t live here forever. Once she finds someone, she’ll move out. Two years max, I promise.”
“She’s gorgeous and sweet–she’s got tons of guys after her. Finding someone new won’t be hard.”
“But I need to help her vet them properly. She’s too naive, and with the baby, she’s vulnerable to getting taken advantage of…”
I cut him off coldly: “Don’t bother to find some guy. You care about her so much, and you’re the baby’s biological father. You’re the perfect choice.”
His whole body instantly went rigid.
Then he let go of me abruptly, his mouth twisting into a mocking smile: “You think you’re irreplaceable? You’re the one who begged to marry me!”
I lowered my head and said quietly: “Yeah. I brought this on myself.”
Twenty years ago, my dad saved Preston’s grandfather’s life on the operating table.
To thank my father, the old man promised he’d accept me as his granddaughter–in–law in the future–I’d inherit the family business alongside Preston and enjoy wealth and luxury. Though Dad agreed jokingly, he never took it
seriously.
He always said: “My precious daughter should marry someone she actually loves.”
But I had to go and fall for Preston.
What I didn’t expect was that three years ago, he went to London for graduate school and married the gentle, poor
ittle saint Iris there.
And I only found out about this the day he returned to the country.
immediately wanted to call his grandfather to break off the engagement, but he knelt in front of me with red eyes, pleading: “Aria, I only love you. I’ve already divorced her–please forgive me this once, okay?”
At that time, I softened and put down my phone…
But looking at this man hurling insults and even getting physical with me, and that woman behind him with her fake tears–I really hate myself for forgiving him back then!
[ris stood up as she spoke, forcing out a smile: “Preston, Aria’s young and doesn’t know better–that’s totally normal.

You need to be more patient with her. Unlike me… I’m used to putting myself last.”
Then she picked up her suitcase and walked toward the door: “I’ll go now. Don’t fight because of me.”
“Get out of my way!” Preston suddenly roared at me, shoving me aside hard as he chased after Iris.
I swayed and crashed heavily into the chair. Excruciating pain instantly swept through my entire body–my vision went black, and sharp pain shot through my limbs and head.
But Preston actually stepped right over me without even a glance.
He frantically caught Iris from behind, his voice shaking: “Iris! You don’t have anyone here, and you’re pregnant–where could you possibly go? Are you trying to kill me with worry?”
Iris stubbornly wiped her tears, forcing a smile: “I can take care of myself. Worst case… there are plenty of men out there. Someone will want to take care of me and the baby…”
“I won’t allow it!” Preston exploded, cutting her off. He grabbed her hand and dragged her back inside.
As they passed me, Iris made a show of concern: “Should we call a doctor for Aria? She looks pretty hurt.”
Preston glanced coldly at me curled up on the floor, his tone indifferent: “No bother. She’s a doctor–she can patch herself up.”
Eventually, the housekeeper couldn’t stand watching anymore and called an ambulance for me.
When I woke up, it was already the next day.
The bedside was empty, but there was a message from Preston on my phone.
[Sorry, I thought you were faking it… Today I’m taking Iris for her prenatal checkup, I’ll come see you tomorrow.]
I didn’t reply to him. Instead, I calmly called the housekeeper and asked him to send my essential documents back
to my own place.
As for Preston’s place? I’d never set foot there again!
