Chapter 5
“I didn’t tattle.”
“I didn’t do that!”
He was pulling me so hard I felt dizzy, mechanically repeating myself.
“Still lying!” he roared, breathing so hard he was almost trembling. “What did Iris ever do to you? Just because she’s my ex–wife? That’s a fact that will never change!”
I stared numbly at him, my voice hoarse:
“Preston, yesterday she wore that wedding dress and stood at the altar with all those guests watching… Grandfather is just recuperating on the island, not completely cut off from the world–how could he not have received the news?”
Preston suddenly froze as if waking from a dream, his hands gripping my wrists desperately:
“Aria, my head was all messed up just now, I’m sorry.”
His voice shook as scalding tears fell on my hands. “Please go beg Grandfather–you’re the only one who can convince him to let Iris stay.”
When I didn’t respond, he actually dropped to one knee:
“Please help me, Aria. Whatever you want, I’ll agree to it!”
Watching his trembling shoulders, I suddenly laughed: “Fine, I have just one condition.”
“Name it!” He looked up eagerly.
“Cancel our engagement. We never see each other again.”
“No! That’s impossible! Aria, I can’t lose you,” he shot up, his voice already hoarse, “but I can’t abandon Iris…”
“Don’t worry,” I cut him off.
“I’ll tell Grandfather I dumped you. You bear zero responsibility, okay?”
With that, I forced myself through the dizziness and headed for the door.
Preston hurried after me to help: “Aria, it’s not what you think… forget it, we’ll get the certificate tomorrow, then you can stop worrying, right?”
I didn’t answer, didn’t even want to give him a single glance.

Chapter 5
Fifteen minutes later, he sped all the way and brought me to the airport VIP lounge.
When Grandfather saw us, he smiled warmly and held my hand:
“Aria, this time the Blackwell family has wronged you.”
Then he turned a cold eye to Iris, who was collapsed on the floor:
“The Blackwell family will never acknowledge this woman or her child!”
I took a deep breath: “Grandfather, I want to help them be together.”
The moment I spoke, Iris suddenly grabbed a liquor bottle from the table and smashed it against her own head.
Blood instantly trickled down her pale face.
She pushed away the panicked Preston, forced herself to kneel on the ground, and gave me a mocking smile:
“Aria, if I die, I won’t be an eyesore anymore. Preston and I are completely innocent–I won’t accept these baseless
accusations…”
Before she finished speaking, she collapsed heavily.
Grandfather had a weak heart and couldn’t handle too much shock. He closed his eyes, suppressing his rage, and left
Only Preston’s heart–wrenching sobs remained in the VIP lounge:
“Aria, save her! You’re a doctor, you must have a way!”
I steadied myself against the sofa, my heart turning to ice.
After all these years, he didn’t even know I was an internal medicine physician who couldn’t handle this kind of
trauma.
But I still kindly called 911 for him.
Just as I turned to leave, Preston suddenly grabbed a bottle and hurled it at me, his eyes terrifyingly vicious:
‘Aria, how can you be so heartless! If anything happens to Iris, I’ll never forgive you!”
The bottle struck the back of my head hard.
Searing pain hit as warm liquid flowed down my neck.
In an instant, my head spun violently, and I collapsed to the ground as if my soul had been ripped away,
Through the haze, I saw a familiar figure burst in and suddenly punch Preston to the ground:
