Chapter 9
Chapter 9
The moment the door closed, Cade grabbed a metal trash can from the hallway and swung it at Preston’s head.
Preston was hit so hard his vision went black, garbage tumbling down his body. He shook his head to clear it and immediately lunged at Cade.
The next second, Cade delivered a vicious side kick to his abdomen. Preston stumbled into the wall, then crashed
heavily to the floor, coughing up blood.
Preston wiped the blood from his mouth and roared:
“You psycho! Always resorting to violence–don’t you have a mouth to speak with?!”
Cade looked down at him condescendingly and suddenly laughed:
“A piece of trash like you–a twice–married scumbag who hits women–wants to talk reason with me?”
“When just hearing your voice gives Aria stress–induced headaches, what makes you think you deserve to speak?”
“I…” Preston suddenly froze, pupils constricting, asking the question that had been eating at him: “Who the hell are
you?”
Cade bent down and stared into Preston’s furious eyes, speaking each word deliberately:
“I’m her childhood friend, the guy who’s been wanting her for over a decade–your worst nightmare!”
“So you two were hooking up this whole time?” Preston suddenly erupted, only to be slapped down again by Cade.
“Watch your dirty mouth. Yesterday you called me some random guy–pretty bold of you.”
“If it wasn’t for how much she liked you… you think I would’ve backed off five years ago?”
Then Cade lowered his voice with a smirk:
“Though I should thank you for being such a loser, pushing her right back into my arms.”
After speaking, he turned and walked away.
Preston tried to follow, but two bodyguards in black appeared from nowhere and restrained him.
“Mr. Blackwell, the old master requests your presence.”
It wasn’t long before Preston was brought to his grandfather’s estate, kneeling at the entrance as instructed, waiting.
He’d always feared his grandfather most, yet kept doing things that enraged the old man. Today there was no

escape–thinking of this, cold sweat broke out on his back.
“The Vale family came to break the engagement. In my lifetime, I’ve accumulated debts I can never repay.” Grandfather said as he approached, his voice ice–cold:
“Two choices. Either get out of the Blackwell family, or remarry Iris and stay away from Aria forever.”
Hearing this, Preston didn’t hesitate, blurting out: “I choose neither!”
The old master’s fingers tightened suddenly, though his face remained composed: “Fine, then I’ll choose for you. You’re immediately disowned from the Blackwell family.”
Preston looked up sharply at his grandfather’s unmoved expression, then bowed his head deeply: “Fine.”
Yet in that instant, Preston felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
He could leave the Blackwell family, but he couldn’t live without Aria.
As he stood up, Iris, who’d been hiding behind the fountain, called out to him.
“Preston, you’d rather be kicked out of your family than have me?”
“I loved you so much, used every trick in the book to drive Aria away for you–why do you only have eyes for her?!”
“Would you not even blink if I died?”
Preston didn’t even look at her, walking straight out of the estate.
Watching Preston’s resolute departure, Iris laughed tragically and suddenly stood up to ram herself against a nearby statue.
Old Master Blackwell gestured for the bodyguards to stop her: “Don’t dirty my property. Escort Miss Shaw out.”
As the bodyguards dragged her out, no one noticed the thick hatred flooding her eyes–the kind that seemed ready to
