Chapter 13
Dorothy went to the hospital and checked on the patient. Knowing she was the chief surgeon, the patient’s mother was utterly grateful and wanted to bow to her at once.]]
Dorothy and other medical staff quickly stopped her and helped her up. “We’re just doing our job.”
“My son would have been dead without you. You gave him another life. Thank you so much…” The patient’s mother couldn’t help but cry, tears streaming down her wrinkled face. She felt so lucky that her son was still alive.[]
Those in the medical field were used to seeing life and death every day, but saving a life always felt rewarding.
After the surgery, the patient’s condition had stabilized. Thankfully, there were no complications.]
Supporting the elderly woman, Dorothy comforted her and gave her some instructions to take care of the patient. Then she left the
ward with the medical staff.
As she went back to her office, she suddenly received a call from her father, Bryson Acosta.[]
She hesitated for a while before answering it.]
“Dottie, can you come back with Dwayne?“]
Having a vague idea of what it was about, Dorothy pulled a long face. “Just tell me what you want.“]
“What’s that supposed to mean? I’m your father. Do I need a reason to ask you to come home? Come back this afternoon.“]
He hung up before she could say anything.[]
Dwayne was having a meeting at the company. Just then, Sonia texted him, “Dwayne, Brenden is in the kindergarten now. It’s all thanks to you. I can’t tell you how grateful I am.“[]
He glanced at it and texted her back, “No worries.“[]
Opening WhatsApp, he suddenly spotted his chat interface with Dorothy.
Only then did he notice that her last message was from the 8th of last month.]
It was, “Will you come over this weekend?“[]
He didn’t reply.
It had been so long, yet she had never texted him again.[]
