Dorothy stood outside the Acosta’s place, hesitating for a long time before entering the door. Upon seeing her, her mother Gianna Acosta walked over with a smile. “You’re back, Dottie.“[]

The disappointment on her face was obvious.[]
Keenly noticing this, Dorothy said flatly, “Don’t bother. I’m back alone.“[]

Just then, Bryson walked downstairs. Since Dwayne was nowhere to be seen, his face fell. “Didn’t I tell you to come back with Dwayne?”

“He’s busy? He’s your husband, OK? All couples fight, but they always patch things up in the end. But you? You can’t get your husband home for dinner. You should be ashamed of yourself!”]
His harsh words stabbed Dorothy’s heart like a sharp knife.[]

Bryson presumed it was all her fault, not even bothering to ask her why she and Dwayne had a quarrel. It was so typical of Bryson. He hadn’t changed at all even after six years.]
Bryson and Gianna had been so happy when she married Dwayne. They didn’t think things like wedding gifts mattered at all.]
Though the Acosta family’s assets and influence couldn’t compare to those of the Lambert family at all, they were richer than most ordinary families. She had thought Bryson and Gianna had genuinely wanted her to be happy.[]
But after the marriage, they started to force her to ask for money from Dwayne using her status as his wife. At first, they had wanted money for a big villa and a fancy car for their son, Rogelio Acosta, and then they had asked money to cover Bryson’s failed business
investments.
In their eyes, Rogelio mattered more.
As for Dorothy? She was just a cash cow who was lucky enough to marry a rich man.[]
