Sonia fixed herself up in front of the mirror, looking pleased.[]
She glanced once more at the stall behind her and walked out confidently.[]

Not long after Sonia returned, Dorothy came back too.[]
Once the conference fully wrapped up, Dorothy walked out with Tyrell Calhoun and two respected senior experts from the medical field.[]
One of the experts said, “Dorothy, Tyrell mentioned you’re Prof. Robertson’s last student. You’re doing complex surgeries on your own at such a young age. It’s truly impressive.”
Dorothy smiled, “You’re flattering me, sir. I owe everything to my supervisor.“[]
The man chuckled and clasped his hands behind his back. “You’re just like your supervisor, always too modest.“]]
After saying goodbye to the two experts, Dorothy and Tyrell headed downstairs together. There was a crowd gathered in the lobby. Sonia was talking about a missing bracelet, asking to check the security footage.[]
“Dr. Frazier, where exactly did you lose it?”
“Yeah, that’s something you keep on you. How could it just go missing?”
Sonia looked pitiful. When she saw Dorothy, her tone turned intentional. “I… I remember going to the restroom and saw Dr. Acosta there… After that, it was gone.”
Everyone was surprised.]
Some of the people around were from Dewbury Medical Center.[]
“Dr. Acosta? That doesn’t seem right.”
“She doesn’t strike me as that kind of person.”
Just then, Dwayne walked over with a few others, calm as ever. His gaze swept across the group. “What’s going on?”
“Dwayne.”
Sonia stepped forward, sounding on the verge of tears. “The bracelet you gave me is gone.“[]
Dwayne frowned slightly but said nothing yet. Someone beside him added, “Dr. Frazier said she lost it when she was with Dr. Acosta.“]
Everyone looked at Dorothy, including Dwayne.[]
Tyrell crossed his arms. “There’s gotta be a misunderstanding. Dottie’s not the type to take something like that.”
Tyrell shouldn’t have spoken. The second he did, Dwayne’s face turned cold.[]
“Mr. Calhoun, how long have you ever known her? Why are you defending her like this?“]
Dorothy felt her chest tighten, like falling into a deep pit.[]
She gripped her bag tighter.[]
She knew he wouldn’t believe her. But she didn’t expect him to throw her under the bus like this, in front of everyone.[]
Tyrell stayed cool. “Mr. Lambert, I just go by facts, not feelings. If there’s proof, that’s what matters.“[]
“It’s not hard.”
Dwayne stroked his watch and fixed his gaze on Dorothy’s face. “Search her bag, and we’ll find out.”

Sonia’s eyes fell with a flicker of triumphant smile. Yet, her tone sounded troub

Dwayne let out a cold laugh. “Didn’t you say the bracelet is missing? If you suspect someone, just check them. What’s the problem?”
“Well, Mr. Lambert is right. If someone’s got nothing to hide, what’s there to be scared of?“]
“I agree.”
Dorothy’s face went pale.]]
She felt like a dull knife had carved out a hole in her chest.
Searching for her personal belongings in front of everyone was accusing her of stealing.
She took a deep breath, endured the ache in her chest, and looked Dwayne straight in the eye. “Mr. Lambert, I didn’t take her bracelet.“[]
“If you didn’t, why are you afraid to be checked?“]
His tone was sharp but sounded rational.]
Dorothy had no way to argue.[]
But she wasn’t stupid.]]
Sonia wouldn’t have pointed fingers unless she knew something.
The bracelet was likely in her bag.
Sonia stepped closer. “Dr. Acosta, Dwayne’s right. It’s just a check. If you didn’t take it, why worry?“]
“Exactly. It’s not a big deal. Only guilty people get nervous.“]
Sonia added, “Dr. Acosta, that bracelet means a lot to me. If you didn’t take it, why not just let me look?“]
She reached out and snatched Dorothy’s bag.
Dorothy tried to grab it back, but Dwayne stopped her.
“Let her check.”
