The second she saw me, Jessica ducked behind Daniel like a coward.
“Aww, feeling a little ashamed now, huh?”
The neighbors started putting it together. Phones came out.
People began recording and cursing them out.
“Disgusting. Cheating with your mistress in your fiancée’s new condo?”
“Heard your fiancée’s family paid for this place, buddy. Shame on you.”
“Post it! Let the whole internet see!”
Daniel let go of Jessica and stepped toward me, trying to grab my arm.
Rachel jumped in front of me.
“Lauren, let me explain-”
“Explain what? That she’s homeless?”
“That she can’t afford a cheap motel? Of all places, she had to come here?”
My questions shut him up instantly.
I turned and walked away.
“Lauren, you’re just… boring. There’s no spark between us.”
Ah. There it was. The truth at last.
“Well, consider this your official notice: our engagement is off.”
That night, both of our families sat down.
The four parents laid into Daniel like hellfire.
Especially his mom and dad.
“Are you even human? You’re not embarrassed by this?”
“We told you Jessica was bad news.”
“What decent girl breaks up someone else’s engagement?”
“Do you realize how bad this looks online?”

“How the hell are you going to keep working now?”
After one of our neighbors uploaded the video, it went viral.
People figured out the guy in the footage was that piano–playing influencer from a few years back.
The public was brutal–and they were all on my side.
“Typical. Even when he’s playing piano, he’s got wandering hands.”
“Barely a year in, and he’s already sleeping around.”
“In the condo his fiancée’s parents bought, no less. Gross.”
“Wonder if that chick’s a pro or just his sad little ‘first love.“”
“If that’s what he’s been hung up on for six years, yikes. What trash.”
I had no clue how Daniel felt reading those comments.
But I did know Jessica had paid for bots to defend her online.
Didn’t matter–every single fake comment got thousands of real users roasting her right back.
