Chapter 11
The next day, I’d just stepped into Holistic Wellness when Daniel called.
“Can you meet me at the Magnolia Room? It’s important.”
“What is it?”
He sounded all frantic on the phone.
“Remember Mr. Harrison from Tarhunt? The guy I told you about?”
“He’s in town and really wants to treat us both to lunch.”
I didn’t say anything.
Maybe sensing I wasn’t sold, he added,
“His daughter’s here too.”
“She’s been to several hospitals in Tarhunt and still isn’t better–he’s hoping you could take a look.”
“Fine.” I hung up without another word.
By the time I got to the restaurant, it was just me, Daniel, and Mr. Harrison in the private room.
After some quick small talk, I asked,
“So… where’s your daughter?”
“Oh, kids. She wandered off next door to play. I’ll call her back in a bit.”
He raised his glass.
“Lauren, cheers. Thank you again–for everything you and Daniel did for our family back then.”
They were old clients.”
“Back before Daniel hired an assistant, I’d helped out with a few of his projects.
A few drinks in, my head was spinning.
“Excuse me,” I mumbled.
I stumbled out of the room and made a beeline for the women’s restroom, where I hurled my guts out.
Suddenly, a big hand yanked me upright by the back of my jacket.
Someone shoved a bottle of mouthwash into my hand.

Chapter 11
I looked up, dazed… and blinked.
It was him. The red–haired guy from the other day.
“You? What are you doing here?”
He looked like he couldn’t care less. His voice was sharp and dry.
“Don’t go back in there.”
“What? How’d you even know I was here?”
He snorted.
“You ever heard of a coincidence? I’m just here eating lunch.”
I was too buzzed to argue, and he didn’t seem in the mood.
I nodded faintly.
“No. I need to go back in.”
He grabbed my wrist.
“They’re obviously setting you up. I checked–those two already booked a room upstairs.”
“No way they’re expecting you and your husband to stay there, right?”
That sobered me up fast.
“You serious?”
“Dead serious.”
e rage hit me like a freight train.
“I’m gonna need a favor.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Alright. I’m in.”
