Chapter 13
That night, I finally learned his name.
Liam Donovan,
He used to be my dad’s student.
What are the odds? We’ve run into each other twice now–both times completely by chance.
Last night was something else entirely.
Trying to dodge some arranged engagement, he straight–up dragged me into his private suite at the Four Seasons… and introduced me to his parents.
“This is Professor Carter’s daughter,” he said like it meant something.
“And also–my future wife.”
Then he kissed me.
In front of them.
Who even does that?!
I’m twenty–eight.
Compared to Liam, who probably still gets carded buying beer, I felt ancient.
Still, just thinking about it now makes my heart race and my face flush.
The guilt? Through the roof.
“Miss Carter?”
Someone knocked on my office door.
Rachel stormed in behind them, her face red with anger.
“Rachel, shut the door.”
Jessica plopped into the chair across from me like she owned the place.
“These past couple days, I haven’t been feeling well,” she said with a fake smile.
“You’re a doctor, right? Why don’t you take a look?”
Her tone was pure challenge.

Chapter 13
Rachel stepped between us.
“Lauren, don’t. She’s up to something.”
Let her try.
I’ve got full 360–degree surveillance in this room.
Whatever stunt she pulls, it’ll be on tape.
I placed two fingers on her wrist, professional as ever, and focused.
And then–my eyes widened.
I jerked my head up and stared at her.
“You’re… pregnant?”
