Ryder heard Ivy laugh softly on the other end of the phone.
Thinking she was just happy, he breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next second, he heard Ivy say:
“Sorry, but I’m not interested anymore.”
After all, now I just wanted them all to drop dead.
He was about to speak when he heard rustling sounds from the other end,
Jasper’s voice came through.
“Ivy, go take a shower. It is our wedding night, after all.”
Ryder shot up from his chair, completely oblivious to Mia lying in the hospital bed, her eyes dark with emotion.
“Jasper Reed, how dare you touch my woman?!”
Jasper sounded completely different from his usual breathless way of speaking.
“What’s this ‘yours‘ and ‘mine‘ crap? Ivy isn’t anyone’s property.”
He hung up immediately.
Less than thirty seconds later, he sent Ryder a photo.
It showed Jasper tilting his neck back, showing off a lipstick mark.
“My wife gave me this. You don’t have one.”
Ryder was so furious he smashed his phone against the wall.
Looking at the shattered screen, he immediately regretted it.
This was a gift from Ivy, and it had backups of all their photos from over the years.
Ryder quickly had his bodyguard take the phone to recover the data.
He couldn’t understand why he should care about those photos and videos, but the thought of losing them made him feel terrible.
Mia finally “woke up” from her fake sleep.
Her delicate hand reached out to touch him.
Ryder immediately pulled away.
She bit her lip quietly.
“Ryder, are you upset that my sister got married?
“Jasper Reed is a psycho. I don’t want you guys having anything to do with him.”
Ryder deliberately said “you guys,” but his mind was focused on only one name.
The rest of the night, he was completely distracted.
A new phone had been delivered, but most of the old backups were lost.
Looking at the few remaining photos of him and Ivy on his phone, Ryder felt empty inside.
He didn’t dare think too deeply about whether ivy and Jasper’s marriage was fake
He tried to focus his attention on Mia instead.
At midnight, the doctor came for rounds. Facing Ryder, the doctor seemed hestant,
Ryder frowned.
“Just spit it out.”
They stepped outside the room and closed the soundproof door.
The doctor finally spoke.
“Mr. Kane, a normal person’s body doesn’t need constant blood transfusions. This isn’t good for Miss Mia either…”
