Chapter 7
The Forrester anniversary press conference was livestreamed, effectively announcing that Reed’s divorce was due to his infidelity.
Typically, after the anniversary celebration, the company’s stock would surge. This year, however, due to Reed’s cheating scandal, Forrester’s stock plummeted, hitting the limit down for a week straight, causing the Forrester family’s assets to shrink by half.
Later, I heard the Forrester elders were furious, forcing Reed to kneel for an entire day before the memorial tablet of his grandfather, who had founded Forrester Group, to repent for his actions.
And Kyla moved into Reed’s home. Though they hadn’t held a wedding, it was enough to make her arrogant and proud.
As for Reed, after being humiliated at the press conference, he seemed to adopt a “might as well go all in” attitude, openly playing around with different women every day.
Kyla did move into Reed’s home, but she didn’t realize how many homes Reed had. Not seeing Reed for a week was common for her. Plus, she’d forgotten that she wasn’t Reed’s only woman.
A few months later, Houston’s largest business group–Harbor Group–held its annual gala. All the city’s notable
figures attended, and Reed brought Jasmine as his date.
When Reed saw me enter with a male companion, his face froze. He approached to greet us, probing, “Harper,
who’s this?”
I smiled slightly, linking arms with my date. “This is my boyfriend, Julian. He’s not from your circle, so you probably don’t have much in common. Sorry.” With that, I started to walk away with my boyfriend.
Suddenly, Reed stepped forward to block us. “When did you two meet? Was your trip with him? Did you rush the
divorce because of him?”
Julian responded with elegant gentleness, “Mr. Forrester, I only began pursuing Harper a month ago. Thankfully, heaven smiled upon us–it was love at first sight. I’m lucky she agreed to be my girlfriend. I think you’re overthinking our situation.”
I laughed, “Mr. Forrester has a complicated mind and an equally complicated life. Look, who’s charging over now.”
Reed followed my gaze and looked back, spotting Kyla in the distance, waddling over with her large belly. She threw the drink in her hand at Jasmine: “You shameless vixen! You dare seduce my husband!”
After being expelled, Jasmine had been living in the apartment Reed provided. She was obedient and docile, never demanding official recognition, which made Reed like her even more.
Seeing Kyla’s shrewish behavior, Reed pulled Jasmine away from the flying drink and grabbed Kyla’s attacking hands. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Jasmine hid behind him, looking frightened and vulnerable. “Reed, I’m scared. She’s the one who got me expelled last time. Now she wants to hit me. I don’t know what I’d do without you here.”
Kyla pointed at her, cursing, “Stop acting like an innocent one. I used those tricks before–you’re not qualified to play these games in front of me.”
Then she looked at Reed, her body trembling as she began to cry pitifully. “Honey, I’m carrying your child and about to give birth, but there’s no one at home. Do you want us both to die?”
Reed frowned angrily, “All the servants and housekeepers left because of your difficult behavior. You complain about being alone, but it was you who drove everyone away. So stay by yourself.”
After moving into Reed’s home, Kyla had been extremely demanding, ordering the servants around. She constantly complained that things weren’t done properly or weren’t suitable for a pregnant woman and needed to be redone. The entire household staff became resentful and eventually returned to Reed’s parents‘ residence, unwilling to stay
with her.
Kyla’s eyes reddened with anger as she touched her belly, shouting, “When you were sweet–talking me before, everything I said was right. Now everything I do is ‘difficult behavior.‘ You’re just fickle, tired of me now that I’m pregnant and annoying to you.”
By then, Jasmine peeked out from behind Reed: “If you know that, why come and make yourself unwelcome?” When Reed wasn’t looking, her lips curved into a provocative smile.
Kyla couldn’t take it anymore. As she stepped forward to hit Jasmine, a sudden sharp pain shot through her abdomen. She stopped to bend over, clutching her stomach: “Reed, my belly really hurts!”
I looked down and pointed to the wet floor beneath her, exclaiming, “Oh my god, Kyla’s water broke! Call an
ambulance!”
The commotion had probably triggered her labor–she was going into premature delivery.
