Book 2
Chapter 1
The piano piece my boyfriend casually played at the mall?
It went viral overnight.
But instead of sharing in his spotlight, I became the poor girl everyone pitied.
“Girl, RUN.”
“That piece is clearly a tribute to his ex–he’s not over her, and you’re just standing there?”
At the time. I didn’t believe it.
I mean, Daniel had never even mentioned an ex before.
But then…
I walked into our brand–new apartment–and saw their bodies tangled on our bed.
His voice still echoes in my head:
“Lauren Carter, you’re boring as hell. There’s zero spark between us.”
And yet–after I walked away and left him with the woman he claimed to love.
He turned around, pointed straight at her, and snapped:
“Get the hell out! Lauren Carter is my wife!”
The DMs and comment notifications kept piling up–mostly from strangers who were way too invested in the song Daniel played.
They weren’t haters.
They were… trying to warn me.
“Girl, that song’s literally about a man who pines for his true love forever, then settles for someone he doesn’t even
like.”
“Ask him to show you a pic of his ex. I bet she looks a lot like you.”
“Congrats on unlocking the ‘You Remind Me of Her‘ heartbreak starter pack.”
My entire comment section was just roast after roast, half–jokes, half–warnings–but every single one of them planted seeds of doubt.

Chapter 1
I glanced over at Daniel, peacefully sleeping next to me, and suddenly, my stomach twisted.
Daniel could play the piano–beautifully, even.
But come to think of it, I could count on one hand the number of times I’d actually heard him play.
With his level of skill, there’s no way he only knew one song.
And yet–the one time I told him I was filming for TikTok, he chose that song.
The one people immediately linked to lost love and regret.
Why?
Why that one?
My best friend tried to talk me down.
“Don’t spiral, babe. Daniel doesn’t strike me as the can’t–let–go type.”
“He probably just played it without thinking.”
But the truth?
I didn’t know a damn thing about Daniel’s past.
He’d never shared it with me.
That’s when I got a DM request that made my heart drop.
The first words jumped right out of the screen: “Hey Daniel… you okay?”
