Chapter 1
My childhood sweetheart husband–who claimed he’d die for me–was drugged and ended up sleeping with his
secretary.
After the drugs wore off, he immediately dragged the secretary in front of me, dropped to his knees, and said I could do whatever I wanted with her.
Seven years of blissful marriage, and I regarded it as a horrible accident. My heart softened, and forgave him.
But then I caught him shopping with his secretary at some high–end baby boutique. Eyes all red and teary, he explaine, “A week ago, my office caught fire. She… she risked her life and saved me from the flames.”
“Then she found out she was pregnant. When Grandma heard about it, she threatened to kill herself if I didn’t keep this baby.”
“I swear to you, Saffron, the moment she gives birth, I’m sending her away. She’ll never–and I mean never–appear in front of you again.”
Heart breaking, I bought into his bullshit explanation again.
Until he competed against me at an auction for my mother’s jewelry for that bitch, even drove the bidding through
the damn roof.
When I confronted him, he just shrugged it off“Wilda’s been having prenatal depression lately. Come on, babe, just… give her it, okay?”
I smiled through my tears. “And what if I don’t?”
He frowned, annoyed. “Saffron, quit being dramatic. I promise you–once Wilda has the baby, everything goes back
to how it was before.”
Back to how it was?
But I didn’t want that shit anymore.
I quietly slipped off my wedding ring and dialed an unknown number.
“That thing you mentioned… I agree.”
After my heartbroken, I did exactly three things.
First, I went to the hospital and terminated my seven–week pregnancy.

Second, I bought a plane ticket for leaving five days later.
Third, I had a lawyer draft divorce papers.
Then, clutching those freshly printed divorce documents, I headed to the hospital.
I stood at the end of the corridor, staring at the entire hospital wing that Lorian Vale had rented out for Wilda
Devereux’s pregnancy care.
Doctors and nurses were at her beck and call 24/7.
And there he was, glued to her bedside–hell, even when she so much as wrinkled her brow, he’d panic like the world was ending.
“I want to eat the cakes from Pemberton’s,” Wilda cooed sweetly.
Without missing a beat, Lorian grabbed his car keys and bolted for the door. “Absolutely. Just stay put, sweetheart.”
The moment he left, I walked into the room.
When Wilda saw me, those doe eyes of hers instantly welled up.
“Oh, Miss Elwood… I’m so, so sorry. I had no idea that was your mother’s belongs. I just… God, I loved that bracelet so
much…”
“And please don’t blame Lorian.”
“Even though he… he took the bracelet from you to give to me, he only did it so I could have a smooth delivery and then go back to normal with you. I totally understand that…”
I had zero interest in watching her little performance and cut her off, “It’s just us two here. Drop the fucking act.”
“When Lorian told me I could do whatever I wanted with you, I gave you three million dollars and told you leave
LA.”
“But here you are, back in his face, knocked up no less. I know exactly what you’re after.”
She froze, something dark flickering in her eyes.
‘I’m done playing games with you two.” I held out the divorce papers. “This divorce agreement–if I hand it to him myself, he’ll never sign it. You need to figure out how to get him to sign without knowing what the hell it is.”
Wilda pressed her lips together. “You’ve got it all wrong. I never wanted to wreck your marriage.”
‘You get one shot,” I said coldly. “Think carefully,”
Wilda stared at those papers for what felt like forever before finally reaching out to take them.

“Thank you, Miss Elwood… for letting our completely family be together.”
Completely family?
My heart felt like someone had just ripped it out with a rusty knife.
“Well then… I wish you three… all the happiness.”
