Chapter 5
But Lorian wasn’t even listening–his mind was completely consumed with Wilda’s agonized cries from down the
hall.
“What’d you say?”
Just as the nurse was about to repeat herself, Lorian cut her off impatiently.
“Quit fucking around and hurry up.If anything happens to her or the baby, you won’t be regret.I promise.”
The nurse shot me a pitying look, her tone reluctant. “I’ll… I’ll try to take as little as possible…”
The moment that needle pierced my vein, the pain was suffocating.
“Does it hurt that much?” The nurse looked confused. “I was being really gentle.”
I shook my head, but tears kept streaming down my face.
I used to be terrified of needles. Every time I had to get blood drawn, Lorian would cover my eyes and whisper soothingly“Easy, dear. It’ll be over in a second.”
Now, for the same procedure, he stood outside checking his watch every five seconds, not even willing to spare me a
glance.
He had no fucking clue that I’d just had an abortion days ago, and with my injuries from the crash, this blood draw
could literally kill me.
After they’d taken 400cc, my vision started going black.
The nurse helped me sit down, but I watched Lorian sprint toward Wilda’s room without looking back.
I stumbled after him and stood outside the half–open door.
In the bed, Wilda lay pale as a ghost, her wrists wrapped in thick bandages.
Lorian sat beside her, gripping her hand tightly, his eyes so tender.
‘Don’t be scared. It’s all over now,” he murmured softly. “Our baby’s safe too.”
My gaze fell on Wilda’s necklace.
That was the one I’d gotten two years ago–I’d literally knelt and prayed for hours at the cathedral, lighting ninety–nine candles for Lorian’s safety.
When I gave it to him, he’d put it on solemnly and said“I’ll never take this off. Not in this lifetime.”

But now it was hanging around another woman’s neck.
The pain in my chest felt like it was tearing me apart. I couldn’t watch anymore and turned to leave.
The next morning, a nurse came for checking my body.
“Mrs. Vale, could you fill out this medical report?” The nurse handed me a form.
I filled it out mechanically, then paused at the marital status section and wrote “Single” in bold letters.
“Mrs. Vale, I think there’s a mistake here,” the nurse said, confused. “You wrote ‘single,‘ but isn’t Mr. Vale your husband?”
“No,” I said calmly. “Soon he won’t be.”
“Saffron, what the hell are you talking about?
The door suddenly burst open, and Lorian stood there looking completely shocked.
