Chapter 10
Now, Lily has grown tired of the ocean, but Liam still insists on visiting the beach once a month
because this is where we first met.
Back then, Liam looked even more pitiful than me and Lily–standing there like an abandoned dog.
I later learned that Liam came from the renowned Shred family, famous in financial circles. Like
me,
he was the unloved child in his family.
That’s why he chose to start his own business. The day I met him happened to be when he had faced rejection after rejection and was losing hope.
As luck would have it, I had a little money saved up and was able to help him through that rough
patch.
Thankfully, he proved himself worthy. Not only did my investment pay off, but he made me a passive shareholder who could stay home and collect dividends–plus he threw in a “little Mr. Shred”
as a bonus.
“Mia…”
His voice turned husky as his burning touch grazed my thigh, instantly giving me goosebumps.
“Stop it, we’re in public,” I protested.
Liam gave me a plaintive look and leaned in closer.
“I’ve asked my assistant to take the kid to the amusement park on the other side. Mia, let’s go back to
the hotel, shall we?”
He kept whispering and pleading in my ear until I completely melted.
Unable to resist his persistence, another afternoon quickly slipped away.
When I finally crawled out of bed, I couldn’t help but kick him.
Liam lunged forward to grab my hand, sliding a cool ring onto my middle finger.
Before he could say anything, his assistant frantically knocked on the door:

“Mr. Shred, Miss Anderson, there’s a man outside claiming to be Lily’s biological father! He’s
blocking Lily from returning to the hotel to rest! He says he must see Miss Anderson, or else he’ll take Lily away!”
My heart clenched. I quickly got dressed and rushed downstairs.
Downstairs, Jackson was acting crazy, forcing Lily to call him “Daddy.”
Lily refused, scared and angry, repeatedly crying out, “I want Mommy!” “I want Daddy Liam!”
Jackson’s face turned ashen with rage. “I am your father!”
I ran over and shoved him aside, pulling Lily into my arms.
a
Seeing me, Jackson’s eyes revealed a hint of guilt.
“Mia, I–I just wanted her to call me…”
“Your daughter is with Vanessa!” I coldly cut him off.
“If you want to hear a child call you ‘Daddy,‘ you should go find Emma, not Lily!”
Liam walked over and positioned himself protectively in front of us, his tone equally icy.
“Jackson Harrison? Why aren’t you at the castle marrying Vanessa? Why are you here harassing
Mia?”
Jackson’s expression turned sour. Ignoring Liam, he stared directly at me.
“Mia, you must have seen what happened with Vanessa online, right? I don’t know how to explain, but I came to ask for another chance. We were husband and wife once. Remember how happy we were when you were pregnant? I was wrong about Lily’s allergies and for neglecting both of you after Vanessa returned. I know how absurd my actions were. I can hand over all the Harrison family assets to Lily when she comes of age. I’ll arrange another wedding ceremony for you. I…”
