Chapter 6
“I bet she will. What is Mia up to now? I feel so bad for her sister.”
Jackson eyed me warily, instinctively stepping back.
But I only moved to stand about three feet in front of him, then stopped.
No one noticed the extra pages beneath the apology letters.
I pulled out a pen and held it out to Jackson.
“Today’s gift is for both you and… my sister. Just sign here–consider it a memento.”
Jackson gave me a strange look, but relaxed when he saw the apology letters in my hand.
While signing, he didn’t bother to read what he was signing. His voice even softened a bit.
“You should have apologized four years ago. Better late than never, I guess.”
He paused, then added, “Don’t worry, as long as you have the Mrs. Harrison title, people won’t dare gossip too much… I’m free for the next few days. After you’ve made your apology, I’ll take you and
Lily out for a little getaway.”
I nodded calmly, my eyes fixed on his signature at the bottom of the last page.
Turning around, I bypassed Vanessa and began reading the apology letter out loud to everyone.
“I, Mia Anderson, shamelessly drugged and seduced my sister’s fiancé four years ago, stole my own
sister’s husband without remorse, and then drove my already–pregnant sister out of the country…”
I read the words mechanically, speaking quickly in a flat voice, my face completely devoid of
emotion.
After finishing in one breath, I stepped down from the platform. Ignoring the whispers behind me and Jackson’s puzzled stare, I picked up my dress and walked out of the Anderson house.
Our housekeeper was waiting outside with my daughter. I took the car keys, made up some excuse, and drove with Lily straight to the airport.

Chapter 6
As the plane took off, I leaned back in my seat, breathing heavily. Lily was unusually excited.
“Mommy, where are we going?”
“Somewhere far away,” I said with a smile.
Jackson, from now on, you can stay with your precious Vanessa, and I’ll focus on my daughter.
We’re never going to see each other again!
Jackson watched Mia’s retreating figure, suddenly feeling uneasy.
Ignoring Vanessa’s smile, he followed Mia out of the Anderson house.
He saw Mia, still in her formal dress, carrying Lily into a car. The staff member standing outside was
from the Harrison household, which gave him some relief.
He wanted to go over and say something, but the car had already driven away.
Vanessa came up behind him.
“Jackson, what’s wrong? Is Mia upset?”
Jackson turned around, feeling guilty when he saw Vanessa’s concerned expression.
Tonight was Vanessa’s special night. How could he be focusing on her vindictive sister?
“It’s nothing. Let her go. Let’s head back to continue the celebration.”
He put his arm around Vanessa’s waist, but his thoughts drifted elsewhere.
He thought: Mia had been acting strangely tonight–so strange that it left him feeling inexplicably
anxious.
Mia was Vanessa’s sister. If not for what happened four years ago, she and Jackson might never
have had any connection at all.
But they had spent four years together, and during her pregnancy, he had genuinely fallen for her…
If Vanessa hadn’t suddenly experienced life–threatening complications during childbirth–with his baby, no less–perhaps his life with Mia would look completely different now.

“Jackson…”
Half the guests had somehow disappeared. Vanessa pressed him against the second–floor staircase corner, where they could clearly see everyone’s movements downstairs.
To be honest, Jackson was no stranger to excitement – he and Vanessa had done plenty of thrilling things in the past.
Especially since returning from abroad, they’d left traces of their passion in more than one mansion.
But tonight, all Jackson could think about was Mia’s resolute departure, her silhouette carrying an unusual lightness he rarely saw in her.
Vanessa had already removed half of her expensive gown, her curves exposed in the soft lighting, when Jackson stepped back.
“Vanessa, I don’t want to…”
Vanessa paused, instantly looking hurt.
“Why? Is it because of Mia?”
