Chapter 1
After Brant Miller’s car accident, he completely forgot about me–his wife–while mistaking the hit–and–run driver for me instead.
He claimed I was just the family maid, forcing our daughter to call the real culprit “Mom.”
The doctor said going along with him would help restore his memory.
But then I accidentally overheard Brant joking with others:
“I never thought I’d get to see Selene again in this lifetime. Faking amnesia is just my way of making up for past regrets–one month to complete our lost five years. No regrets after this.”
I stared down at my torn, filthy maid’s uniform and cried silently.
So all our compromises–mine and my daughter’s–were just fuel for their “no regrets” romance.
I chose to leave, letting them have their true love. But that night, Brant lost it completely, kneeling outside my door in tears, begging me to come back.
“You told her you had amnesia and she actually believed it?! What a foolish woman!”
“I had my doctor friend back up my story. Vivian felt so sorry for me, how could she possibly suspect anything? Plus, to help me ‘recover‘ faster, she actually went along with it and played the maid–doing laundry and cooking every day! Hilarious.”
Laughter from the living room drowned out Brant Miller’s voice.
I stood frozen outside the door, clutching my maid’s uniform, trembling all over.
Brant had just called me to the living room to deliver some documents.
Selene–the real hit–and–run driver from that accident–sat intimately beside Brant, ordering me around to pour drinks and serve food while mocking me relentlessly.
Not only did I endure it all, but I even secretly texted the friends present, asking them to help maintain my “maid” disguise.
If I hadn’t forgotten my phone and come back for it, I probably never would have discovered the truth-
Brant’s amnesia was nothing but an elaborate lie.
My mind spinning, I fled back to the maid’s quarters. The moment I walked in, my daughter Amy lit up and called out “Mommy!”
Then panic flashed across her face as she quickly covered her mouth, nervously looking around to make sure no

one had followed me. Only after confirming we were alone did she relax and take my hand.
Seeing my daughter’s terrified reaction, tears streamed down my face.
Yes, to make his performance convincing, Brant didn’t just refuse to recognize me–he also denied our daughter
Amy.
He told Amy that Selene was her real mother.
Every time Amy called me “Mom,” Brant would explode with rage.
Amy was only six years old, yet like me, she’d become nothing more than a prop in their reunion charade.
Guilt crushing my chest, I pulled my daughter into my arms as her small hands gently wiped away my tears.
“Mommy, don’t be scared. Daddy and that mean lady aren’t here–nobody will yell at us.”
Sharp pain twisted through my heart as I held Amy tight, suddenly unable to breathe.
Seeing me gasping for air, Amy jumped up in alarm and immediately ran to get my asthma medication.
But my medicine was in the master bedroom. And this morning, Brant had changed the locks specifically to keep me
what right does a maid have to enter my and Selene’s love nest?!”
“Drop that shameless expression! Plenty of women in this world want me, but my heart belongs only to my wife!”
At the time, remembering the doctor’s words, I’d accepted it all.
But I’d forgotten–I was an asthma patient. Too much stress would trigger an attack.
Now, suffocating pain consumed me as I collapsed helplessly to the floor.
Amy ran back barefoot, tears filling her eyes.
“Mommy, the big bedroom is locked! Amy can’t get in! Hold on, Mommy–Amy will call for help!”
She grabbed her beat–up phone and dialed Brant’s number.
“Daddy, Mommy’s having an asthma attack…”
“Amy, your mother is sitting right next to me. Stop talking nonsense!”
“Daddy, I don’t want to play house anymore! Mommy’s medicine is in the big bedroom–what’s the password?”
Brant clicked his tongue in annoyance, then Selene took over the call.
“Amy, stop being difficult. Mommy and Daddy are perfectly fine together.”
“Tell that maid to drop the act. If she’s sick, she can go to the hospital!”
