Chapter 27
Third Person
It was tradition in Titanfang pack that Lunas become familiar with their Alphas affairs. This helped them understand the workings of the pack before marriage so that when they stepped into their role, they knew what to do.
At least, that’s what Logan told Emily.
She was skeptical. She had never heard of this type of thing before. Although Luna training was real, she had never heard of one becoming their Alphas assistant.*
However, Logan was serious. It must be a special kind of training specific to the pack then.
Emily reminded Logan that she had her own work to do as well. She wasn’t sure if she had
time to sit in an office with him.
“What could be more important than our collaboration?” Logan asked.
Emily was confused. “It’s part of the deal, remember? I need to work towards reclaiming
my inheritance. I intend to find a lawyer and start that as soon as possible.” The glower in
Logan’s eyes disappeared, and his expression softened a little as he looked at Emily.
“Yes, you’re right.” Logan had been so absorbed in his own plans that he had nearly left hers behind. She was on a mission, and part of their deal was to support that. “I’ll work on getting a team put together for you.”
With Logan making such excellent points, Emily felt that she had to agree. It would be good for her to understand Alphas affairs anyway. She would succeed her own pack one day and she could sure learn something from a successful pack like Titanfang.
The atmosphere between them, which had been growing warmer at one point, had gone stale and cold.
As Emily left, Logan watched her. He remained standing there even as Emily moved out of

sight.
With a heavy sigh, Logan headed back to his office. From his desk, he made a phone call.
“Tony,” he said to his Beta on the other line, “I need you to get another desk in my office as soon as possible.”
“Yes, Alpha. Can I ask what for?”
“I’m going to have Emily start working with me tomorrow. From now on, the pack has a tradition of Lunas working as assistants to their Alphas. Remember that, and don’t let it slip out that it was any other way.”
“Of course. Your relationship with our future Luna must be growing stronger if you’re unwilling to separate for even a moment,” said Tony, a hint of humor in his voice.
No one would have ever expected the headstrong leader of Titanfang to fall so in love.
Logan hung up the phone immediately. He didn’t even want to hear it. The last thing he needed was more of his Beta’s remarks.
He and Emily were merely upholding their contract. If Emily was swayed by Michael, it
could interfere with all of his future plans.
She had lied to him about who she was meeting with already. He needed to keep an eye on her, so he’d keep her as close as he could.
Emily
The next morning, I found myself sitting at my brand new desk. I sat outside the door to Logan’s office, in a high–back executive chair. If I leaned a bit, I could see through the door
to Logan. He had his attention elsewhere, and he hardly said a word to me.
All day, I observed Logan. When he was working, he was more serious than usual. If he was thinking really hard, there was a crease in his brow that I found so attractive.
I suppressed that thought quickly. It wasn’t the time to be thinking of Logan’s handsome

face. It would never be the time.
Logan and I have a contractual relationship. It’s important that I keep reminding myself of
that.
I wasn’t actually assigned any tasks right off the bat. I spent most of my time sitting and twiddling my thumbs. I occasionally picked up a notepad to jot down ideas or any memories I’d have that I thought would help in my case for my mother’s inheritance.
The entire morning, curious wolves were filtering in and out of the office. It seemed like most of them caught a glimpse of me, especially since they came by with trivial matters.
They whispered to each other as they passed by. A few stopped by to chat with me, but a glare from Logan told them not to stay for long.
When it neared lunch time, I grew restless. Logan had only shown me a few things, but I had
mostly been sitting quietly at my desk.
I decided it was time to be proactive.
“Is there any work I can do?” I asked Logan. He had been reading a report, that little crease
in his brow. When he looked up at me, he tapped his fingers on the desk.
“You want work?” he asked with surprise, both eyebrows raising.
“Yes. If there is anything I can help with, I’d be happy to.” Besides, sitting here doing nothing was driving me crazy.
“Alright, I’ll have something for you this afternoon,” he said.
I was disappointed as not getting some work was getting discouraging. However, I reminded myself that it was only the first day, and that I would be getting something to do this afternoon.
A knock at the door signaled Tony’s entrance.
“Lunch delivery,” he said as he walked in. Tony set a plate down in front of me, then gave a

similar plate to Logan.
“Thank you, this looks great!” I said. It was a mouthwatering steak on a hoagie bun with a fresh smelling chimichurri sauce. On the side were some nice, crispy fries.
It was a significant step up from the last meal I had at the Blackwood pack.
Before he left, the Beta stopped at my desk.
“Could you do me a favor?” he asked quietly.
“Sure, what is it?” I asked.
“Do you think you could make sure the Alpha eats? I’m tired of him having coffee for
lunch,” said Tony.
“Yeah, I can do that,” I said with a cheerful smile. Tony thanked me and went on his way. After Tony left, I looked through the doorway to Logan. Sure enough, he grabbed his coffee cup and refilled it from the coffee maker in his office. When he sat back down again, he
moved his lunch plate aside and went back to work.
Tony had a right to be concerned. It seemed like Logan wasn’t planning on eating. I let out a heavy sigh, stood up, and marched into Logan’s office.
He barely had a chance to look at me before I grabbed the file from his hand.
