Chapter 116 Chatter

Aiden rolled his eyes again. She really is dumb. You call her dumb and she actually proves it. What was he even doing wasting his breath on her? Playing with Freya was way more interesting–and at least that counted as helping his uncle charm his future wife. But this dumb girl? What did he get out of humoring her? Nothing.
Forget it. Not worth it.
Aiden ignored Han Summer and, too bored to do anything else, moved off to the side to play with the sandbox. As he scooped and poured, he couldn’t help but feel a little gloomy. How had it come to this? A genius little prince like me, reduced to playing this kind of low–IQ game. Truly, what a disgrace to the times!
Meanwhile, Freya–completely unaware of Aiden’s internal drama–was still listening to Sophia go on and on.
“Summer’s always been very shy. I had no choice but to transfer her to this school. After all, the academic standards and teacher quality here are excellent. The only thing I’m worried about is whether the other children will be friendly. I’d hate for them to treat her the way adults do–with prejudice. If that happens, Summer might end up being bullied.”
Freya blinked. Saying something like that right in front of the school staff–isn’t that just asking for enemies?
She glanced at the staff member nearby, whose polite smile was clearly starting to crack. Freya quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
“I wouldn’t worry too much. Kids aren’t as complicated as adults. Summer’s adorable–she’ll be just fine. And the staff here are all so professional. Even if something does come up, I’m sure they’ll handle it right away. Isn’t that right?”
She deliberately gave the staffer an opening, and the woman immediately responded with a bright smile.
“Of course. Everyone on our team is fully committed to helping every child grow up healthy and happy. Summer is such a sweet little girl–I’m sure the other students will love her. And we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out to make sure she’s safe and supported.”
Sophia finally realized she’d been so focused on talking to Freya that she’d totally forgotten the staff were standing right there. Her earlier remarks now sounded incredibly inappropriate. She scrambled to save face.
“Oh gosh, that’s not what I meant! It’s just that the staff at Summer’s previous school weren’t very responsible. I didn’t mean you, I swear. Please don’t take it the wrong way. I absolutely trust your school—I’m just a bit of a worrywart when it comes to Summer.”
“We understand completely,” Freya said, nodding in support. “Totally normal to worry.”
“Oh, look at me going on about myself. I haven’t even asked your name yet!” Sophia said with faux warmth. Even though she knew Freya was younger, she deliberately used a friendlier tone to play the upper hand.
Freya, not picking up on the nuance, replied kindly, “Oh, my last name’s Stone–first name Freya. You can just call me Freya.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t dream of being so informal. I’ll stick with Ms. Freya.” Sophia gave her a close–lipped smile. “I’m Sophia Hanson–you might’ve seen me on–screen recently. I starred in that popular show everyone was talking about. Maybe you’ve watched something I’ve done?”
Freya thought for a moment. She hadn’t been in this world long and had only seen a few shows. Nope, no memory of her at all. But she still smiled supportively.
“Oh, so it was you. I wasn’t sure at first–I thought I might be mistaken.”
“I get that a lot,” Sophia said, brushing her hair behind one ear in a deliberately elegant gesture. “I look a little different off- camera.”
Freya nodded repeatedly. “Totally. Honestly, I think you’re even prettier in person than you are on–screen.
