Chapter 129 Bad Luck
“No need to be polite. Once I make this round of money, life will finally get easier for us,” Freya said.

Ever since arriving in this world, she’d always felt like she was floating–like she didn’t really belong. But today, for the first time, she finally felt grounded.
The adaptation deal was proof that she could succeed here on her own merit. Freya had always been someone who lacked a strong sense of security, but now, with some real accomplishments under her belt, she felt stable–confident. No more pretending to be calm while secretly panicking. Now she had something solid to stand on, and she knew she could build a life for herself here.
As soon as they stepped into the private restaurant’s lobby, they bumped into someone vaguely familiar. Freya was still trying to place the middle–aged man when he stepped right into their path, his pudgy face lit up with gloating malice.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Mr. Louis,” he sneered. “Can’t believe I’d run into someone like you in a place like this. What an honor. Heard you’ve hit a rough patch in business lately. Could it be you can’t afford the good spots anymore, so you’ve lowered yourself to slumming it here? I mean, if you’re trying to impress a lady, shouldn’t you pick somewhere a little classier? This place doesn’t seem worthy of someone with your… reputation.”
Then the man turned to Freya and actually stepped closer. “Sweetheart, I bet you don’t even know that the man next to you is all face and no fortune now. You’d be better off with someone like me. At least I’ve still got some assets. Stick with him, and you’ll probably end up neck–deep in debt.”
That was when Freya remembered who he was. Back when the old Freya had first married into the Graham family, this man -one of their drivers–was fired by Louis for stealing. She’d only seen him a couple times, so it made sense she didn’t recognize him right away.
But seriously–after all this time, this guy still had the nerve to run his mouth about Louis? Disgusting. Freya could suddenly understand just how much Louis must have been putting up with. No matter where he went, someone was always waiting to kick him while he was down.
She regretted bringing Louis here tonight. If she’d known, she would’ve picked a different restaurant.
“And you are?” Louis asked, brow slightly furrowed, as if he truly didn’t recognize the man.
That single sentence sent the man into a fury. He gave a cold laugh. “Of course. Someone like you would never remember us lowly mortals. It’s just shocking to see someone who used to be so high and mighty finally fall to earth. So tell me, Mr. Louis -what does it feel like to fall from such a height?”
“You’re a strange one,” Freya cut in. “We don’t even know you, yet here you are running your mouth like we’re old friends. Who are you again?”
As she spoke, she lifted her hand and fanned the air beneath her nose dramatically before turning to Louis. “Ugh, what is that smell? I swear, someone’s releasing toxic fumes in here. Totally kills my appetite. How about we go somewhere else? I don’t think I can eat here with that stench in the air.”
Louis nodded. The man made a move to block their way, but Freya smacked his hand aside.
“Put your claws away,” she snapped. “I get it—you’re jealous. Seeing Louis probably makes you feel insecure. But hey, it’s not like you can help being ugly. Jealousy won’t get you anywhere. If you really want to improve yourself, maybe start by losing some weight. That gut of yours looks like it’s about to pop the buttons off your shirt.”
The man opened his mouth to fire back, but Freya and Louis had already walked away without giving him another glance. He wanted to chase after them, but his friend held him back.
Whatever else they said after that, Freya neither knew nor cared.
