Chapter 141 The Conversation
Chapter 141 The Conversation
“So what’s your plan after this?”
+5 Free Coins
Freya didn’t know why, but she let out a breath of relief. Somehow, hearing that question made her feel significantly lighter.
“I’ll rent a place, keep writing to earn a living. Life should be pretty relaxed. Maybe I’ll sketch some designs here and there, and if the timing’s right, I could take on some design work. Hopefully, I’ll go on one or two trips a year. The rest of the time will be just like now. If my novel gets adapted into a show, and I get to work as part of the screenwriting team, I might follow the crew around. That’s about it.”
As she spoke, a warm smile spread across her face.
“I’m not very ambitious. As long as I make enough to live on and cushion life’s bumps, that’s enough. I don’t need to be rich. I just want a simple, steady life, filled with the small things that make it feel real. That’s why I don’t think I’d ever match well with someone like you. It’s better to part ways while we still have a bit of goodwill left–so in the future, if we run into each other, we can still nod hello.”
She had thought about many things before, but Louis‘ rise came so fast it shattered all of them. He never actually needed her help, so she couldn’t keep pretending they shared some sort of deep bond. Honestly, if she stuck to the original path of the old Freya, she’d still owe him.
Which meant: the money and the apartment–she couldn’t keep either.
The money came from selling those designer bags and clothes, which had been his to begin with. The apartment was bought with that same money, so naturally it belonged to him, too. In these two months, she’d only made a tiny bit of income from her writing. That thirty thousand she wanted to take with her? It was more like borrowing from him.
“You’re in love with someone else?”
Freya was in the middle of mentally redoing the math when that question from Louis came out of nowhere. She nearly jumped in place and shook her head furiously.
“No, no! Absolutely not! You know me–I’m either at home writing or out grocery shopping. Even if I wanted to get into something, who’d put up with my schedule? And even if I’m not the best person around, I still wouldn’t stoop to cheating while I’m married. That’d be the ultimate slap in my own face. You have to believe in my character!”
The second she mentioned character, she faltered a bit. Given the original old Freya’s history… not exactly a solid defense.
But she quickly straightened her spine. She had already deleted those photos of Guan Liucheng, and the original old Freya hadn’t actually done anything real–just thought about it. And besides, Louis never found out. She wasn’t admitting to anything.
“I swear I haven’t fallen for anyone. I haven’t even been around other men! Where would I even find someone to like?” Freya practically wanted to crack her chest open and show him her heart. A clean breakup was one thing–but if Louis thought she’d cheated? That would make them enemies.
She wasn’t stupid enough to put horns on someone like him. That was asking to be destroyed.
“Is living with me that hard for you?”
“No way. You’re a good guy–your habits are fine, you’re not picky, and you’re easy to take care of.”
“Then if you don’t have feelings for anyone else, and you don’t find me intolerable… why insist on divorcing the moment my career is about to turn around? What difference would it make to wait a little?”
Louis tapped his finger against the table–slow, rhythmic. It was a sharp question.
“Uh?”
Freya had prepared herself for all kinds of questions… but not this one.
Right. Why did she have to leave right now?
