Kendrick might have joked earlier, but he could tell something serious was going on. Even if he didn’t know the details, both of his older brothers clearly took it seriously, so he stopped fooling around and headed off to find Baylon as instructed.
Meanwhile, Louis was driving, with Waylon in the passenger seat as they made their way to the police station.
At the station, Freya snuck glances at the girl sitting beside her–her heart thudding with excitement.
The girl wore a simple white hanfu embroidered with a delicate spray of red plum blossoms. Her waist was so slender it looked like it could be encircled with a single hand. The cloth buttons ran neatly from her waist to her neck, and her chest rose and fell with each breath. Her long neck was as graceful as a swan’s, and her skin looked as flawless as polished jade.
She had a small, perfectly shaped face, with well–proportioned and refined features. Her lips were a soft pink, her nose tall and elegant, and her large, bright eyes held a depth that seemed to see straight through you. Her brows were straight and fine, adding a noble sharpness to her expression. Her hair was half pinned up with a jade hairpin, the rest flowing neatly down her back. The entire aura she gave off was like a mist–wrapped fairy–ethereal, otherworldly, almost unreal.
Freya, who had written countless novels, felt like she was finally meeting a real–life version of the heroines she’d imagined. She tried to hold it in, but couldn’t help scooting closer.
“Ms. Jasmine, do you practice martial arts?”
“I do. A little.”
Even her voice was beautiful. Freya had to resist the urge to hug her. What a gorgeous girl!
To Jasmine, the woman next to her was also lovely and full of life. Her features were sharp and striking, dressed in a simple ponytail and casual clothes that exuded energy and cheerfulness. With such a bright and radiant appearance, it was easy to tell she was someone blessed with good fortune. Just seeing her smile, with those crescent eyes, made people feel better instantly.
“Can I call you Jasmine?” Freya asked, unable to hold back her grin.
Jasmine had initially thought the name was too familiar, but seeing Freya’s cheerful face, she couldn’t bring herself to say no. “Alright.”
“Yes!” Freya cheered. “Jasmine, thank you so much for earlier. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what that guy might’ve done
to me.”
Without hesitation, Freya clung to Jasmine’s arm.
Jasmine wasn’t used to people being this physically close, but there was something incredibly endearing about Freya. So she endured it. “It was nothing. I only did what was right. No need to thank me.”
Freya noticed Jasmine’s tone was a little different–almost old–fashioned–but assumed she was imagining it. “You’re sure you didn’t get hurt earlier?”
“I’m fine.”
“By the way, whose number did you give just now? Are your family coming to pick you up?”
That question made Freya falter a little. She’d given Louis‘ number, not knowing whether he would actually show up. But she didn’t have anyone else in this world to rely on.
If Jasmine’s family couldn’t come, she’d have to beg Louis to take Jasmine with them too. Worst case, she’d owe him another favor–not like she didn’t owe him plenty already.
“It’s not family.” Jasmine replied. “I’m just staying temporarily. Mathilda should be coming to get me.”
Jasmine sighed silently. She hadn’t wanted to trouble Mathilda, but she couldn’t afford to reveal her true identity just yet. For now, she’d just have to endure it.
