Freya realized this was the longest speech she’d ever heard from Louis.
He must be really proud of this feature.
“This will be a huge selling point for players.”
“Just the words ‘holographic game‘ alone will draw massive attention,” Louis said. “Once released, it’ll generate its own hype. I just wanted them to make it groundbreaking. There’s plenty more to explore–you’ll see when it launches.”
“Absolutely! I’ll be playing nonstop once it’s out,” Freya agreed without hesitation. Then a practical concern hit her. “How does it work? Do we need special gaming pods?”
If so, I’d need to save up. Those things probably cost a fortune.
“You can buy a pod or play at licensed arcades with tiered pricing,” Louis said, instantly reading her worry. “When it launches, I’ll give you one.”
Freya beamed. “Thanks!”
She was itching to explore the town and chat with NPCs, but Louis clearly had an itinerary. Since this was his project and she was just tagging along, she obediently followed his lead.
At the town square, an NPC greeted them cheerfully, “Traveling the world on foot wears a man out! Try our teleportation service–see anywhere instantly! The world’s vast, adventurers. Don’t you want to explore?”
Freya giggled, nudging Louis. “Who writes these NPC lines? Micky’s team?”
“All staff contributed.”
“Figures! They’re hilarious.” Still laughing, Freya paid the teleporter.
It amused me how the researchers acted so casually around Louis, as if his usual authority didn’t apply here.
Their destination was the nearest major city. Louis explained the game world spanned three continents, each 1.5 million square miles. Teleportation time and cost scaled with distance. Since they were sightseeing, they’d hit all key landmarks.

He waved a glossy map enticingly.
The map’s quality looks good. But 10 credits is not cheap.
Freya checked her purse–10,000 Credits. Compared to the 1 million credit in her account, this seemed reasonable. She bought it immediately and gasped–the map dynamically updated based on selections.
Louis’s eyes glinted with approval.
As they exited, a child’s scream pierced the air. “Help! A beast is chasing me!” Something yanked the map from Freya’s hands.
“They can rob players too?!” she exclaimed.
“Anything’s possible here,” Louis said, clearly entertained. “You flashed cash earlier. If we weren’t together, they might’ve taken your whole purse. How much did you carry?”
“20 Credits.” She patted her coin pouch–still there.
The game had multiple inventory systems, visible bags, hidden storage, vaults, and even an in–game bank with interest accrual.
Freya pouted. The realism was almost too good. “Should we report this to the guards?”
“We could, but let’s not waste time.” Louis guided her through key shops and trading posts. They even dined at the city’s finest restaurant–the virtual food tasted surprisingly authentic, complete with satiety effects that left Freya marveling.
