Freya did the math for him. “The one we sold the rights for–the editor said casting would begin next month, and filming might start the month after that. As for the novel I’m working on now, I wrote ten thousand words today.”
Ten thousand words. That probably took a whole day. Louis leaned back into the chair, still probing. “Got writer’s block?”
“Nope, it went really smoothly. I just hit a minor climax in the story; otherwise, I couldn’t have written that much in one go.” It was rare for Louis to show so much concern for her.
Freya subconsciously wondered if he was in a bad mood today. But the project launch was going well, and money was clearly on the horizon. That didn’t add up.
“What about you? Did everything go well today?” she asked in return.
“Yeah.”
“Hey, you guys need marketing funds to launch a project, right? Are you still covered?” She had no plans to rely on her family’s money; a few hundred thousand might not be much to someone like him, but even a small fly was still meat, right?
“Normally, we would need marketing funds, but VR MMO is a little different.” Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to launch this project first. As long as it didn’t cause any safety incidents, it could make money quickly and pave the way for other future projects.
“Oh, are you hungry?”
Louis replied, “Not hungry.”
Freya glanced around, then picked up a tangerine from the fruit plate on the table and handed it to him. “Then have some fruit. Get your vitamins.”
Why did he have to eat something?
Louis watched Freya’s head bobbing as she looked at him with those wide eyes. For some reason, the tangerine in his hand suddenly felt unusually precious. He hadn’t planned to eat it, but somehow he started peeling it.

Freya looked down quietly, watching him peel the tangerine. His long, pale finge strong and precise; even peeling fruit looked elegant. Then she glanced at her own fingers- hers were pretty too. That thought made her happy.

Freya took it and popped a segment into her mouth. It wasn’t too sour–actually, it was quite sweet. “These tangerines taste pretty good. Let’s buy more tomorrow.”
“Alright.” She wanted to cat but didn’t want to peel; talk about lazy. Still, fine–he’d just try to get back earlier tomorrow and peel it for her.
Freya wanted to get back to writing, but Louis was still sitting there, unmoving. “Do you need something?”
“What?”
“Nothing; just… your project launched. Aren’t you busy?”
“All the prep work was done earlier. Now it’s just a matter of waiting.” Louis glanced at her smiling face, then picked up another tangerine and started peeling.
“You really are something else,” Freya said, tilting her head with a grin. “You’re definitely going to be even more successful than before!”
Louis smiled slightly. “You really believe that?”
“Of course! You’re a total powerhouse. It’s just a matter of time before you’re back on top.”
“What if I fail?”
“No way. You’re amazing. And even if you do fail, it doesn’t matter. Just keep working hard; if you never give up, success will come sooner or later.”
Louis handed her the other half of the tangerine. Freya wasn’t particularly in the mood to eat more, but since he was being nice–probably because he liked what she just said–she accepted it.
Thankfully, this tangerine wasn’t sour either. If it had been, she would’ve turned it down even if it upset him.
After she finished eating, Louis still showed no sign of leaving. Her motivation to write had pretty much fizzled out, and she remembered there was a movie this month she hadn’t seen yet. So she subtly tried to get him to leave. “I’m gonna watch a movie. Want t

Wait, what did he just say? Freya was so shocked she couldn’t hide it. Louis noticed her reaction and assumed she was surprised he agreed to watch a movie with her. He did have a lot on his plate, but thinking back on how well–behaved and kind she’d been lately, he just couldn’t bring himself to say no. A movie was at most two hours; worst case, he’d just sleep a little later tonight.
If this were before, Freya would have picked a commercial film out of courtesy–even if she didn’t like it, she’d sit through it. But now that she’d come around, she wasn’t about to do that.
Who knew what was going on with Louis today? She was going to watch the comedy she wanted. If he didn’t like it, great–he could leave and let her enjoy it alone.
During the movie, Freya didn’t hold back at all. She tore open a bag of snacks and started crunching away, even holding the bag out to Louis to offer him some. And to her surprise, he actually took it.
