“Oh right, I heard Mr. Charles is getting close to tying the knot with the second daughter of the Cross family. Any idea when the wedding will be?”
Charles‘ face dropped instantly, but he quickly put on a smile. “No rush. It depends on how my grandmother’s health holds up. But Mr. Graham and Mr. Baylon, it’s been ages since I last saw you two. I really missed you both. Mr. Graham, you’re a star now. Who would’ve thought that your downfall was all just for show?”
Baylon let out a dry laugh. “You didn’t really think Louis was actually as dumb as some people, did you?”
Freya nearly burst out laughing. Say what you want.
Baylon had a sharp tongue, and he was fiercely protective. If Kendrick had been here too, things would probably get even livelier.
Just as she was thinking that, Kendrick and Waylon appeared.
“Louis!”
“Well, well, Waylon. You guys came too? This really is turning into a party,” Baylon waved Kendrick over. “Come here, Kendrick. Let me take a look–have you lost weight?”
Kendrick leaned over and squeezed into Baylon’s side. “Of course I have. So what are you gonna do to make up for it? I heard you got your hands on something fun lately. Planning to share it with me?”
Baylon shot him a look and said. “It’s broad daylight. You still half asleep?”
Waylon strolled over, grinning. “Kendrick, I told you that Baylon wouldn’t want to share. Took him forever to get that thing–no way he’s giving you first dibs.”
Kendrick had clearly decided to be shameless tonight. He threw an arm around Baylon’s neck. “Baylon, didn’t we say we’d be bros for life?”
Baylon looked thoroughly shocked. “Kendrick, don’t you know what brothers are for? They take the hit for you. What, you still dreaming of some heartwarming family bro
nce?”
He reached out dramatically to touch Kendrick’s forehead. “No fever. Don’t tell me Louis messed with your brain? That can’t be it, right?”

Kendrick gave his arm a light twist. “So we’re not brother anymore? I was gonna ask your dad if we could take a trip down south sometime. But if you’re not feeling it, then forget it.”
“No need. I’m staying put. Being envied feels way better than going on vacation. Makes my sleep more peaceful every night.” Baylon smiled and pinched Kendrick’s arm, pushing it off with a firm grip.
Kendrick went quiet. Guess I lost this round in the shamelessness game.
“Hey, isn’t that Mr. Kendrick and Mr. Waylon? Long time no see.” Charles had been waiting all this time. The newcomers hadn’t even acknowledged him, so he finally spoke up to assert his presence.
“Huh? What are you doing here? Weren’t you about to marry that–what’s her name again- that girl?” Kendrick frowned, blinking as if just remembering something.
“Oh right, we caught her getting awfully friendly with that guy from the other family when we walked in. You looked like you’d swallowed a lemon. And yet here you are, strolling around like nothing happened. Gotta admire the guts.”
With that one sentence, Charles‘ face changed color again. This time, he couldn’t even fake a with smile. He blurted out, “I just remembered something I need to take care of. I’ll catch up you all later.”
“No problem, no problem. Take care, Mr. Charles. Don’t let your blood pressure get too high; a stroke’s not worth it. Your health matters more than anything,” Waylon said, raising his glass. “And don’t mind Kendrick–he talks nonsense. Getting married’s just what it is. Let me go ahead and wish you a blissful marriage, everlasting harmony, and lots of kids.”
Freya thought these two had razor–sharp tongues. They showed up and immediately sent someone running.
Waylon sipped from his glass, then finally turned to greet her.
“Hey Freya, nice to see you out and about. I heard you’ve been pretty busy lately.”

That “heard” probably meant he got it from Jasmine. Freya had been chatting w Jasmine now and then–well, mostly pestering her–but Jasmine had been nice about it. Freya asked, she always answered. Thanks to her guidance, she had even learned to use memes lately.

“I heard your novel’s already sold the rights and will start filming the month after next. And you’re even credited as a co–writer? Freya, that’s real talent.”
