“Oh wow, isn’t this Mrs. Graham? Who would’ve thought? She used to look so simple and down–to–earth, but turns out she’s quite the schemer. I thought she and Mr. Graham were already divorced. Didn’t expect her to cling on and refuse. Yet here she is, making a comeback after just a couple of months and even getting praised by everyone. That kind of manipulation–most people wouldn’t know where to start.”
“Don’t say that. Is Mrs. Graham really that type of person? Maybe she’s just lucky! Maybe she didn’t get divorced because she had nowhere else to go. She might’ve been hanging on for dear life, never dreaming a pie would fall from the sky right into her lap–and she caught it perfectly.”
“Well, it’s not impossible. But if you ask me, even when luck drops right into someone’s lap, not everyone can hold onto it. Sometimes it looks like they’ve got it all, but who knows what kind of damage came with it? So don’t be too quick to judge. We should just keep watching
“Who are you?” Freya lifted her head and glanced at the three women, not recognizing a single one. Their outfits didn’t give anything away either. She had wanted to keep quiet, but being talked about like that right in front of her, she wasn’t the type to swallow it.
“We’re just nobodies. It makes sense that Mrs. Graham wouldn’t remember. You’re probably used to important people; we’re beneath your notice.” The woman in the blue dress was the
one to answer.
“Well, you seem to know a lot about me, and at least you’re self–aware. Since you already know you’re irrelevant, why even bother throwing shade at me? Even if you talk, I won’t remember you. I’ve got a broad view and a big heart; there are just too many people who envy me. I can’t keep track.”
The three women were caught off guard by how sharp Freya’s response was. They had no immediate comeback.
“Who’s envious of you?” the one in the yellow dress snapped. “You just clung to a man for some quick benefits and now you really think you’re some phoenix on a branch?”

“Can’t say I am–but unlike you, at least I actually became the so–called phoenix. Some people dream of that and still never get the chance.” Freya waved her hand & a cool expression.
Then she asked, “When you came to the banquet earlier, did you notice the two greeters at the door? Do you know how old they are, whether they have boyfriends, or who those boyfriends are?”

The three women blinked, confused. “How would we know? What does that have to do with us?”
“Oh, so you do understand when something has nothing to do with you. I thought maybe
you
didn’t.” Freya replied with meaning. Her ankle was feeling better by now, so she stood up.
“It’s fine. Say whatever you want. But when I go back out, I’ll ask Mr. Cooper to grab a microphone and broadcast everything you just said–let everyone know you’re good girls who don’t want to marry rich men, so the rich ones stay far away and you all get a fair shot at building your futures.”
If they didn’t want to marry rich, why gossip about Freya behind her back? After hearing her say that, their faces changed color.
Freya didn’t bother with them anymore. She walked off with a cold little laugh. If they were really hardworking women, they’d be out there networking, trying to expand their circles right now.
These three were probably from families where they didn’t hold much importance. A well- raised young lady wouldn’t behave like that. Freya didn’t know the full details, but her past
? memories gave her enough insight to guess.
In her past life, the old Freya version of her had liked hanging around people like that. No one was important, no one mocked each other, and they got a weird thrill out of gossiping together.
But Freya wasn’t interested. She could sit alone in a corner and feel just fine; at least it gave her time to think about her novel. They were just fair–weather friends anyway–not worth the trouble. After finally shaking one group off, she had no intention of gathering another.
Back at the sofa, Louis and the others were gone. Freya scanned the room quickly and spotted the three of them each talking to someone else.
Probably discussing business. Freya had no interest in that, so she didn’t go over. She happened to be a little hungry anyway, so she helped herself to some food and sat down to eat.
The whole hall was filled with people who had their own agendas. Freya was the only one tucked into a corner, eating and drinking without a care in the world–her vibe completely different from everyone else’s. And because of her special status, even thou notice, a lot of people were sneaking glances her way.
