“These cookies really that good?” Andrew stared at the green cookie in Freya’s hand. It looked like it might be chocolate–flavored.
“They’re delicious.” Freya finally swallowed what was in her mouth and casually handed the one in her hand to Andrew. “Want to try?”
Andrew didn’t hold back; he took it and popped it into his mouth. It was okay–nowhere near as amazing as Freya had made it seem. But when he looked back at her and saw how satisfied she looked munching away, it made the cookie seem tastier somehow.
“You’re Mr. Graham’s wife, right? Why are you sitting here alone? Why not go over and find him?”
“He’s talking to other people, isn’t he? I was a little hungry, so I figured I’d sit here and have something to eat.” Freya figured the kid might be worried his family hadn’t taken good care of her.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. These heels are killing me; sitting here is a good chance to rest. Your family’s been really thoughtful–there’s nothing I need.”
Andrew remembered what his sister had told him earlier and hesitated for a second before asking Freya, “I heard you and Mr. Graham were going to get divorced. How come you didn’t? He must like you now, right?”
Normally, it would be pretty rude for someone who barely knew her to ask about her marriage like that. But Freya figured he was only eighteen; boys that age were curious. He probably just couldn’t help himself, so she didn’t mind and answered casually.
“Back then, when he went bankrupt, I thought it was real. I’d spent so much of his money already, I felt bad just walking away–so I didn’t divorce him. I mean, I was just an ordinary person at the time. I could deal with whatever life threw at me. I never expected him to bounce back so fast. Now that I want to divorce, he won’t go through with it. Says he doesn’t want to be the kind of guy who’s heartless.”
Freya wanted to show that Louis was a man of loyalty. That was the image h project too, and she figured she might as well help him with it.

At the same time, she made it clear that she was the one who wanted the divorce. That way, if they did split later, people would remember it was her decision and not think less of him.
“You mean, you want a divorce, but Mr. Graham doesn’t–because he doesn’t want to seem

heartless?” Andrew wasn’t entirely convinced. He was still in school, but he occasionally overheard his parents and sister talking about business–and some gossip came along with it. He’d heard things about Freya before.
But comparing what he’d heard to the woman in front of him, Andrew felt the rumors might not be true. If no one told you her name, you’d never connect the Freya from the gossip to the person sitting beside him now.
“Yep. Mr. Graham’s a good man.” Freya nodded firmly, her expression full of sincerity.
“What are you two chatting about?” Andrew’s sister walked over with a smile and sat down next to him,
“I saw Ms. Stone eating over here and it looked so good, I wanted to try some myself. I haven’t eaten much all afternoon; now I’m a little hungry,” Andrew said, using the excuse he and his sister had come up with earlier.
“You–still acting like a little kid,” she said with a laugh, lightly tapping Andrew’s forehead before turning to Freya. “Ms. Stone, I’m the eldest daughter of the Aaron family. My name is Aria. I’ve heard so much about you but never had the chance to meet you in person. You’re even more beautiful than the rumors say. This little brother of mine–once he sees food, all shame goes out the window. I hope you don’t mind.”
“No worries at all. I love food too–it’s practically a national trait in our land of foodies,” Freya joked as she picked up a cookie and handed it to Aria. “Here, Ms. Aria, give this one a try.”
“Sure. Watching you two snack away over here was making me hungry anyway.”
“I think these cookies are really well made. The chocolate ones, especially–they’re so good. But it’s getting late, and I’m trying not to overdo it. Being a girl isn’t easy sometimes,” Freya said with a wistful glance at the cookie plate. She’d already eaten quite a few, and any more might make her look like she lacked self–control.
“Ms. Stone, you don’t even need to worry. Your figure’s amazing. Mr. Graham’s lucky to have a wife like you–beautiful, elegant, and someone who stuck by him through thick and thin. My mom even told Andrew he should marry someone like you one day. You two look like such a perfect couple; I bet your relationship is rock solid.”
“Heh, it’s alright. I mean, most couples are like that, right?” Freya didn’t dare claim she and Louis had a great relationship. That’d be a tough one to explain later if they ended up divorcing. Keeping it vague gave her some flexibility if things went south.
