“My parents have frozen my cards for almost a month now. Louis and your husband even told everyone not to give me any special treatment, so of course I ended up like this. I’ve never had it this bad in my entire life,” Kendrick said, remarkably, without breaking down. Even he found it hard to believe.
“So now my only options are to either go home, go to Louis’s place, or come stay with your husband.”
Going to Louis’s was practically a vacation; heading home meant getting an earful with his cars physically tugged; and if he went to Louis’s, he’d be dragged into nonstop studying. If not for that, he wouldn’t have ended up here doing livestreams of all things.
It sounded pitiful enough, but Freya was skeptical. “You don’t have a secret stash? Come on, you’re a grown man. I don’t buy it.”
Kendrick’s eyes instantly widened. Seriously? Could she be any more blunt?
Louis was sitting right there! He frantically waved his hand, as if trying to shake away a ghost.
“No, no! I’m a pure, innocent guy. There’s no way I’d have a secret fund. My parents know about every cent I own!”
Louis reached over and placed a shrimp in Freya’s bowl. In that moment, she immediately understood why Kendrick was freaking out. This guy definitely has a stash. He just doesn’t dare admit it, or act like it, in front of Louis.
“Well, if you don’t, you don’t. Why’re you so worked up? I never said you definitely had one,” Freya said with faux innocence. Louis’s lips curled into a faint smile–he wasn’t saying a word about confiscating Kendrick’s so–called secret stash.
Freya kept teasing. “You know, for someone who’s a full–blown celebrity, it’s kind of ridiculous that you don’t even know to hide some rainy day money. I don’t even know what to say to that. If you’d just tucked away a bit before, you wouldn’t be so helpless now, would you?”
Kendrick wanted to cry out that she was wrong, that she was making things up–but he didn’t dare. He sneaked a glance at Louis, then nodded seriously at Freya.
“You’re absolutely right. It’s all my fault for not stashing some away when I had the chance. That’s why I’m in this mess now.”

Freya looked pleased. “It’s fine. Just learn from it. You’re an adult, after all.”
“Yeah, I’ll definitely be smarter next time. But I still can’t lie to my family–just enough to eat, that’s all I’d keep.” Kendrick genuinely felt like he’d hit rock bottom. Freya always seemed nice enough, but in critical moments, she was just as ruthless as Louis.
After roasting their tsundere friend, Freya happily dug into her food. Kendrick had no choice but to accept his fate.
In the afternoon, Kendrick had to continue livestreaming, Freya couldn’t leave, so she stuck around and helped out like she did that morning. It wasn’t until nearly six o’clock that they finally wrapped up.
“We’re not doing this again tonight, are we?” Freya shut down the stream, her voice full of dread as she looked at Kendrick.
At this point, Kendrick had completely let go of any idol image. He leaned back in the office chair, waving his hand dismissively. “Nope, no way. Even if your husband held a knife to my throat, I’m done for the day. My mouth is so dry from all the talking.”
“Look at you. Weren’t you the same way when you were filming? That had to be way harder than this.”
Freya had done tons of research on the entertainment industry for her stories. Low–tier celebrities bought trending topics to build fake personas; the higher–tier ones put out press releases claiming they were working themselves to the bone.
When she’d looked into Kendrick specifically, she came across all those pieces, how he got injured on set and kept working, how he went sleepless for two or three days straight for a role. She figured. If he’s out here saying this stuff, surely there’s some truth behind it, right?
“That’s different! That was something I loved–it was earning money for me. This? This is earning money for your husband. And I can’t even act–I just have to sit there and talk in circles,” Kendrick huffed, rolling his eyes.
“How’s that any different? You act one way on stream and a whole other way off it,” Freya said with a shrug. “You’ve never let yourself go like this during a stream before.”
“I let myself go? When?” Kendrick looked alarmed.
“Right now,” she said–just as a jacket came flying toward Kendrick’s head. He instinctively caught it and looked up to see it was Louis who’d thrown it.
“If you’re done streaming, let’s go. Louis said you’re crashing at his place tonight,” Louis said,

tilting his head at Freya to signal her to shut down the computer. Then he turned back to Kendrick. “You’ll be eating dinner over there too.” D
“I worked hard all afternoon and Louis can’t even be bothered to feed me? Don’t you think that’s a little harsh?” Kendrick rushed to Freya’s side. “Your husband’s being so stingy and you’re just letting it slide?”
Freya shuddered. Control a big shot like him? With what? How? Kendrick was clearly giving her way too much credit.
