“We’ve been working together for days, and you never mentioned who you really are? That’s cold–I thought we were friends.”
Freya felt her skin crawl. If he were we ever friends! She sure didn’t remember that part. Still, she didn’t call Jasper out in front of everyone. Instead, she just smiled and kept things polite.
“It’s not like I’m anyone important. We’re all just here to work–that’s what matters. Everything else doesn’t really have anything to do with our jobs.”
That shut Jasper up for a second. This wasn’t the first time. He’d been trying to get closer to Freya the past few days, but she always kept her distance–polite, professional, and cold. Any time he tried to say something more personal, she either dodged it or brushed it off like she didn’t even notice.
Right now, though, all Jasper felt was relief. Thank God he hadn’t pushed harder. If he’d actually made a move, he would’ve been in real trouble by now.

“You’re right,” Jasper said quickly, trying to cover. “That’s on me. I’ve been shooting nonstop–losing track of time, losing my head a little. It’s only been a few days, but I already feel like I’m stuck in the character.”
Kendrick wanted to roll his eyes. He was already bored, and listening to someone like Jasper talk only made it worse. The guy couldn’t hide a thing–he was painfully easy to read.
Seriously, Kendrick thought. What the W does Hudson ser in this guy? Maybe he just prefers the simple kind–sweet, a little clueless, but easy to manage. Maybe it’s just easier working with people you can control.
Maybe. But Kendrick had no interest in hearing Jasper ramble anymore. He turned to Freya instead. “Do you guys get a lunch break or what?”

break today. We’ve still got scenes to shoot,” Freya said. “If you’re tired, you don’t have to stick around. You can rest.”

“Nah, I’ll sleep later. Might as well stick around and see how things run over here. Then he looked over at Jasper like he’d just remembered he was still standing there. Then he looked over at Jaspek like he’d just remembered he was still standing there.
What could Jasper say? Hang around and get humiliated? Jasper got the message loud and clear. “Right… yeah. I was just about to head back. I’ll let you two talk”
He smiled and walked off, but inside, he was frustrated. He’d finally found a woman he liked–and of course, she turned out to be completely out of reach. For once, he was glad his manager had warned him to back off
His manager knew the industry well. Whatever Hudson’s real intentions were, giving him someone like that was still a way of having his back.
That afternoon, Freya went back to work, Kendrick dragged a chair over and sat nearby, watching her as she moved through the scenes. Anytime someone tried to chat with him, he ignored them completely.
Thomas had been busy filming all day. He’d heard Kendrick had stopped by and brought milk tea and that he seemed to koow Freya–but he hadn’t had a chance to figure out what was really going on.
As soon as he got a break, he went straight to Violet Emerson, the lead actress.

Violet nodded. “Exactly. He was the head of the Graham Group. Made headlines in the finance world a couple of years ago. He was the guy–rich, smart, and a total heartthrob. The internet was obsessed.” Violet wasn’t clueless. She knew what kind of guy Thomas was, so she threw him a bit of a warning. “Look, Freya might be gorgeous, but she’s not someone you want to mess with. If you’ve got anything in mind, you should probably let it go. I’ve been watching–she hasn’t even spared you a glance. Be glad for that. If she had taken you seriously, you wouldn’t still be standing here talking to me,”
Thomas didn’t look convinced, so Violet spelled it out. “Kendrick’s the youngest in that family–and he’s already a handful. His older cousins‘ Even more ruthless. That Louis guy? Took over the Graham Group when he was twenty. Doubled its size. in a few years. Word is, the whole ‘bankruptcy thing was just a power play–his way of ditching the leeches in his family.”
Thomas gave her a long look. “You sure seem to know a lot.”
