Louis studied Freya’s conflicted expression and instantly understood. He suddenly gripped her shoulders, turning her to face him directly.
“I know you’re not the original Freya. You appeared around the time I declared bankruptcy, didn’t you?”
The words struck Freya like lightning. Her mouth opened but no sound came out.
Louis chuckled softly. “Did you really think you could replace someone completely without leaving traces? You might have her memories, but a person’s thought patterns and behaviors don’t change overnight.”
When Freya tried to speak, he continued, “You left clues everywhere–no amount of excuses could cover them all. As for why I never confronted you? At first, I realized you meant no harm, didn’t steal this body intentionally, and had good character. There was no need to expose you.”
He sighed. “Then I fell for you. Not something I planned. But since it’s you, maybe it’s fate.” “Wait–you just accepted it? Just like that? Aren’t you afraid I’m some wandering ghost?”
“Ghost or not, everyone dies eventually. We all become wandering spirits then,” Louis teased.
Freya’s face scrunched up.
This man’s logic is on another planet!
Louis ruffled her hair again, turning serious.
“You probably don’t know about my parents. My mother wasn’t from this world either. She crossed over and met my father by chance. He fought against all odds to marry her. Years later, when her health declined, he abandoned his career here to accompany her back.”
Freya’s eyes widened. “Your… your mother was also a transmigrator?”
“Exactly. That’s why Grandfather raised me. But it’s fine–knowing they’re happy in that other world is enough.”

Still, Freya hesitated. “But… Why me? Why do you like me?”

Being painfully honest, Freya began counting on her fingers.
“I’m lazy, unmotivated, hate chores, and have no carcer ambition. I’m average–looking and don’t bother dressing up. All I like is writing stories, daydreaming, occasionally eating good food, and maybe seeing my novels adapted. That’s it.”
She spread her hands. “See? Completely unremarkable. Nothing worth liking.”
Louis barely resisted the urge to kiss her.
How can someone so wonderful see herself this way?
“You’re kind, patient, and compassionate. You might not chase success, but you give your all to everything you do. Money doesn’t sway you–you’re rational, clear–headed, and persistent under pressure. When problems arise, you focus on solutions, not self–pity. Those are all virtues.”
Me? Really?
Freya’s doubtful look made him smile.
“But none of that matters. Love doesn’t need reasons.”
The warmth she brought him, the peace he felt with her–those were things beyond words.
“So now,” Louis leaned closer, “any more questions about my feelings? May I hear your answer?”
